Why didn't Washington have a runner back there? Could have returned that.

Cause it's 2024, when's the last time you saw a kicker come up that short, even on a 56 yarder?

Why Daniel Carlsson pulled that feat off two times a month ago at Geha field at Arrowhead Stadium.

Should be a fun postgame presser for Raheem. I know there's no way game management is worse than it's ever been, it's pretty much never been good, it just seems there's been more particularly egregious errors at absolutely crucial times this year.

It's so very Vikings and Lions that both teams are probably having their best regular seasons in the last 30 years (maybe more) but they are doing it the same season so only one of them will get the 1 seed and the division title and the other will have to go on the road for the playoffs.

I swear a good 25% of the games are lost due to clock mismanagement at the end of the game. Do these teams not have someone on the sidelines watching the clock? If the Falcons use those timeouts properly and gain another 5-10 yards they'd (likely) be going to the playoffs. Now they're on the outside looking in. It's mind-blowing that they wasted two timeouts with a chance to win.

I'm surprised they're putting the Ravens before the Steelers. But I suppose the Steelers still want to win and get the 5 seed with the Chargers only needing to beat the Raiders to move into that spot.

Tom Brady’s best role would be to helicopter in to games like Gene Steratore to talk about clock management late in games. Would be a great job and if he’s not interested, I’m offering my services.

Bengals are still alive as well and need to win that game then hope for Dolphin and Bronco losses on Sunday.

Yeah they're essentially third in line for a Wild Card spot. So I did think that was likely the Saturday night game since both teams still technically had something at stake. Plus both would have full rest since both played early this week and it's a reasonably appealing matchup. I guess the league figures the Browns won't beat the Ravens twice. Plus Pittsburgh would be staring down a game in Baltimore if they don't win.

Bengals are gonna get in and set up us having to go through Burrow, Jackson, and Mahomes just to get to the Super Bowl.

Highly doubtful with the Chiefs almost certainly playing their backups on Sunday.

And even if the Chiefs pull it off the Dolphins will need to lose to the Jets for the Bengals to get in. Not impossible, since the Dolphins mostly aren't good, but the Jets have clearly mailed it in.

That's a tough one in this situation. They got down the field and lined up pretty efficiently after that play at the WSH 44.
Main reason they don't want to call a time out in that situation is to not let the other team settle or substitute. If Penix throws a subsequent 10-12 yard underneath pass against a defense who is mostly trying to properly line up and playing a conservative zone, they are in FG range.
He didn't, instead he threw incomplete. But, to my point, after that clock stoppage, Penix threw 2 more incompletions against a defense better setup and having had the ability to substitute. They got two penalties which gained them 15 yards or so.
There are screwups with time management, I don't think that was one of them, Atlanta gambled after a big hit play and hoped to catch Washingtons defense on their heels and get a quick hit play for an additional 10+ yards against a soft defense...then use a timeout or two to get even closer.

It was quite clearly a major clock blunder. I get the "they won't be set" argument, but the counter is the Falcons also won't be fully ready either. They also reduced themselves to only two plays to get more yards, a quick timeout after the initial completion and they'd get three plays. And as we saw from the kick, settling for a 55+ yarder was a terrible idea. They needed as many plays as possible to get maximum yardage.
