Draft-eligible D Radim Mrtka (6'6",198lbs), who is expected to be selected in the first round, has joined the Thunderbirds after playing in 3 different tiers of hockey in Czechia so far this season. Despite having to adjust to playing in North America on one of the worst teams in the WHL, he has so far put up 10gp/2g/6a/8pts,+3, 10 PIM. Very impressive. Strangely enough, he is already tied for 2nd in D scoring on the T-Birds.

So the players go to the event, get their name called....and then what? Do they go up on stage? Get a jersey? If yes, who greets them on stage and gives them the jersey?

I assume just like the NBA draft, it'll be Bettman.

I see.
I've never watched an NBA draft, or any draft of any other sport for that matter.

Well that sucks. Was hoping to maybe attend the 2026 draft and it'd be cool to see all the team brass running around.

If it's anything like the NBA or NFL which is the exact draft format they use, there will be even more of a reason to attend in person as they are more fan-focused.

I believe he operates the T-shirt gun for that purpose. Obviously, he's much too short to give things to basketball players by hand.

Har Har!
Fine, just like the NBA draft OR the NFL draft, the Commish dishes out the swag.
Now the question is, will it be like the COVID draft where the team remotely announces the pick? Or will the pick be called by Bettman.

I went to both days of the 2000 Draft here in Calgary, and I had the time of my life!

I'm still so pissed they changed it. I always loved that the NHL draft was a bit different than the NBA/NFL ones, where you just have the commish announce the picks ... teams going up on stage themselves, embracing the kid, I don't know, I just thought it was neat.
It especially sucks when you look at the 2024 draft. Big show, great venue, Celine freaking Dion. And Vegas just knocked it out of the park ... I don't remember you posted this back then, but just look at this:
Now we'll get Gary Bettman announcing 32 picks. I understand the logistics behind it and that it's easier for teams to do it differently, but I'm still bummed out about it.

It's going to save the league tens of millions of dollars in travel costs alone.

They should do this, in the Sphere, every year.
If they want to save some travel costs, cut each team's contingent in half - why does each team need 10-12 people there? Have 4 guys, with the rest of the team at home in the war room.
