Not exactly, no. I put my thoughts on the matter a few pages ago so i'll just copy it rather than type it out again.

The Jays have backed themselves in to a corner with no good way out.

They didn't trade Bo when his value was high, yet didnt make an attempt to re-sign him either. Didn't re-sign him when his value was low - and now he's on the doorstep of free agency and will get paid more than what he is worth to the Jays. The only solution left with Bo is to trade him - but his value is lower now coming off a poor season and only having 1 year of term left.

With Vladdy - I think they thought they were being smart playing the waiting game, but its becoming more and more likely it will come back to haunt them. He is in good shape now and just had a monster season. He will likely earn a large contract and this close to free agency - he will be very tempted to test the market and shop himself around. He may end up back with the Jays but at a massively inflated price tag.

The tough part with these types of guys and it was similar with Gaudreau in hockey is that the inconsistent season to season performance makes the decisions really tough.

You don't want to trade him coming off a down season, and he doesn't want to sign because he'd be taking a discount for what he's worth or you feel your overpaying for what his performance was.

And you don't want to trade him coming off a great season because at that point you want to keep the player, but you also don't want to re-sign them because you're paying high when you know they weren't great the year before.

Exactly. Not the kind of core players you want to build around.

The Jays FO tried to spend about $700 million in each of the last two off seasons trying to acquire the type of core players that you do want to build around.

Astros no longer in on Bregman so maybe the Jars still have a shot if they want to go 7 years, $200 million.

Would probably go similar to Springer, solid first couple years and then an albatross.

Is that the rumored asking price? I'd think 4 years would be the most I'd go. Close to $30M /season is quite a bit. Not sure I'd do either that length or AAV. If that's the case I'd look elsewhere. One foot has to be in the rebuild territory if Vlad or Bo don't resign.

At this point, it hard to figure out what is the Jays plan?

Offensively, Jays are definitely not improved...

Bull pen they have added arms,

I don’t think there is only one plan. I’m sure there are several roads depending on the cards that hit. Burnes seems to be the primary target at this point. I really don’t understand the lack of any rumours with Vlad. It’s weird that there doesn’t seem to be a defined direction here, but there’s still time for chips to fall into place and this to be more clear.

Could be, if the offseason ended today, Jays likely are close to the bottom of the AL East.

In the east I believe they would be right now. LF, 3B and DH aren’t there and that’s not including pitching. They have a bunch of work to do. If they sign the equivalent of IKF I sincerely hope they look to clear management and rebuild.

Springer will be 35 coming off a 1.1 WAR season with persistent nagging injuries. Imo I think you need to consider RF a hole at this point as well

No doubt. Honestly the only one in the lineup who isn’t a question mark is Vlad and Bo. The rest are questions.

There are questions about Gimenez's bat but I think he can be the starting 2B on a good team just based on defence.

Varsho (once healthy) can be a starting CF based on defense and speed as well, and I think Kirk is a reasonable platoon catcher. But that still leaves another C, 3B, DH, LF and RF. And you'd want some power because right now the the lineup has very little.

Yankees picked up Paul Goldschmidt for 1 year. Stop gap 1B so they can take a run at Vlad in free agency???

God damn. Just sign the man and stop dicking around.

Astros offered 6 years for about $152M before moving on.

Of course this could go like Correa and Boras overplays his hand.

Their plan is a hail Mary on a super star (0/2) and that's about it.

Josh Naylor to the Dbacks

I wish the Jays had snagged him. Would have been a cheap way to add some WAR in the form of a lefty bat with some power.

Maybe he wasn't keen on being mostly a DH

If jays sign guerrero this winter I will forgive some ill will towards Atkins. It rages stronger with no additions to batting lineup so far.

Jays are so miss-managed....yikes, another off-season with very little if nothing has been accomplished.
