Yeah, that plus the GMs in the league valued Kakko a lot less than a lot of people on this board.
Anyway, if NYR wanted that particular kind of player, Calgary has to give Pachal.

That looks terrible, but it might have more to do with MSG/Dolan than it does Drury. Seems to be coming right from the top and affecting all of those franchises.

Saw a bunch of stuff on twitter recently about how the players hate Drury, even before the Trouba stuff. No idea as to the veracity, though.

Wow... basically forcing the players to act like a-holes and not mingle with 'the help'
That's some grade A toxicity right there.

That's fine if Pachal and pick is the cost. I think it's a miss to not have landed this considering the return and obvious ability to feed Kakko more playing time.

Except there's no saying they don't prefer Borgen v Pachal. Plus there's just not as much room on the wing going forward as you think.
Huberdeau/Coleman/Pospisil/Coronato/Sharangovich/Pelletier plus Mantha on IR, plus Kerins, Honzek and Klapka in the minors, plus Basha, Misa, Battaglia in junior.

So in the course of a week, Drury trades Trouba + Kakko for Vaakanainen + Borgen + 3rd + 4th + 5th
Does that sound like the moves of a GM of a team that is fully in their cup window?
For Trouba + Kakko, I might be willing to give up Andersson (if I thought I could flip Trouba at the deadline for a decent return)

Thats a terrible offer for Andersson. Both declining assets? Better get 2 unprotected 1sts with that.

That's the kind of trade that gets a GM on the next-to-be-fired list.

A reasonable return for Andersson would be 1st + 2nd + 2nd
I would say Kakko is worth a 1st, and before this trade, I would have guessed he would have been worth a little more than that.
The question is - what is Trouba worth? And frankly, I thought he was worth more than what they got for him, and I would think you could get a couple 2nds in a trade.
That was all before these two trades of course, where both players returned less than I would have expected. (but I blame Drury for that)

My only point was that Drury did not get good returns for these players

Nah, I think you're a little out of touch on valuations that's all. Trouba + Kakko for Andersson would be a sure fire fail of a return before or after what they actually returned, like not even close. Instant firing for any GM that would do that.

So it sounds like Calgary didn’t submit any formal offer, this because Drury was in an absolute rush to just get rid of him.
Calgary was more inclined to swap young forwards, likely Pelletier was the guy the flames were looking to swap, with a later round pick included.
However they talked weeks ago more seriously and kept in touch but it sounds like Drury pulled the trigger before a lot of interested teams could formalize anything. That would or I would assume they think the world of Borgen?? Doubt it though.

On Barn Burner today, Dreger was mostly speculating but said that Francis has a reputation for not playing games. Based on reputation, Dreger speculated that Francis likely told Drury that if he heard any leaks in the media about the offer or if any other GMs contacted him to say that the offer is being shopped around, that he'd take the offer off the table. Dreger said that sort of thing happens a lot. Based on that, it would be quite possible that Conroy never had an opportunity to match or beat the offer.

Yep, matches what I’ve heard.
That would make sense.

Are you saying that we're all up in arms because Conroy missed out on a nonexistent opportunity? That would never happen on CP, would it? Posters here never get outraged when incomplete information leads to the wrong conclusions.

Rhett compared it to the Phaneuf deal. Thats one scenario I didn't see coming given the recent demotion and ice time for Kakko. I suspect he (Drury) could do better and if Francis said the deal is off if he shops it, fine the deal is off.
Doesn't add up to me. But I'll trust Dreger on this I guess.

This doesn't surprise me in the least. Chris Drury displayed some of the poorest character I've ever seen in a pro in his brief time with the Flames. He hated it in Calgary, and he made it known with his play, his demeanor, and even his words within the organization. He was a me-first kind of guy, and didn't understand that a team is only strong when everyone is pulling on the rope in the same direction. To do that, you need to have strong relationships throughout the entire organization, and create an atmosphere where everyone buys in, almost family-like. Drury never understood this, and it's obvious to me he still doesn't. He always carried himself with a smug self-sense of excellence, but he never really was that great.
Glad to see him lose his mind, and consequently, his reputation as a competent hockey mind. I never felt he was deserving of the GM chair in the first place.

well, better to sharpen the pencil and put a more serious offer sooner, if anything is to be learned of this scenario. Probably unimportant in the long run, but it would have been nice to give someone like Kakko a shot here.
