A friend of mine swore by one of those headbands. I tried his once and it seemed pretty good. I told him to send me a link to the product and I might buy one. He sent me one instead. I have yet to actually use it since he gifted it to me a few months ago. This is my unhelpful addition to the conversation.

Sound quality wise, my understanding is that they're passable. It shouldn't sound like a kazoo, but it should still perform at a respectable $10 headphones level of quality. It should be relatively clear with decent enough max volume, but they're not designed to let you hear subtle quivering of the universe in a guided meditation or whatever.

No dude, these are made for side sleepers, which is what I am. They're the lowest profile earbuds ever made specifically for sleeping on your side. They block noise (not active, but quite well, anyway...active noise cancelling would bulk them up, which you don't want for side sleeping). Sound quality is quite good.

Really? Interesting. I'll take your word for it, but I have doubt it'd be comfortable for me personally.

The images made them look like normal ear buds. I've tried multiple brands of some of the smallest possible or softest wireless ear buds and they always feel like I'm trying to shove something through my head like a Frankenstein bolt or something. If it's not that and popping out of my ears, I can hear the plastic flexing and clicking when there's any movements.

I understand your concerns. I've been praying for these things to get small enough to be effective for side sleepers for years. These are ridiculously low profile. They're new this year and finally small enough.

I use headband speakers every single night. They’ve vastly improved my sleep.

I listen to podcasts—setting them to stop at 45 or 60 minutes to stop just before the podcast ends. In the morning I rewind if I want to pick up where I fell asleep.

Those things are literally dreamy.

Yeah they're good and really affordable. I like the buds even more because they block out sound - almost like ear plugs - once my media times out. If you're not a light sleeper, though, you're in good shape with a headband.

I have a pair of wired earbuds that are barely small enough to meet the criteria, but the materials flexing was still easily noticeable (and it wasn't the cable making the sound).

Just one thing to be aware of I noticed in the past with wearing earbuds to sleep. Over months, it can create a situation/environment where earwax can compact and shape in slightly weird ways due to trapped moisture and movement rolling it up into larger pieces or something.

Shouldn't be anything crazy though. It just might just mean you have to intentionally clean your ears every once in a while to avoid situations where there's enough build up that can muffle sound.

I wear these every night and fall asleep with them on. Good enough for music or podcasts. I actually listen to rain sounds to fall asleep.

I actually have three pairs so I always have one charged.

Hmm. If they were so loud that they bothered your spouse, then just save the money and play music through your cell phone speaker or radio.

She wears it over her eyes and plays death metal at 11 and then when I am done having sex I put them on to listen to rain and fall asleep.

They do not disturb her at all. At very high volume she can hear them but then you are probably not sleeping.

I recomend the headband for nightly use.

For pure noise cancellation and not trying to lay down I recently got a pair of these: https://www.amazon.ca/soundcore-Canc..._source=1&th=1
Highly reviewed for the noise cancellation and quite affordable. I actully got a refurbished pair for $65 so very happy with that.
