You know...I've watched a lot of TV but it seems to me that the New York authorities have been almost criminally remiss in terms of surveilling the grounds surrounding the Brooklyn bridge.

People get killed there all the time.

"What? Again? We really should be monitoring that!"

Airdrie is such a terrible, soulless place. And you get the benefit of being far enough away from Calgary that you can't just head downtown or elsewhere and join friends for an evening. Sign me the opposite of up, please. I mean, even if you got the benefit of great discounts on housing, but you really don't these days. You're just out there in no mans land in a super sprawled, standard, bland suburban community area.

It's like all their buyers are families from Calgary that get hyper focused on what they get in their new build house and go "yeah but extra bonus room for the same price as a house in Calgary without the bonus room and all we lose is hanging out with friends and having fun in the city because even though we say we'll still do those things there's tens of thousands of examples of every one who moves to Airdrie and just stays in Airdrie 95% of nights because it's too far/too much hassle to come and do things".

It's the actual worst and your bang on with all this.

My joke for whenever I'm watching dystopic movie with my family is to say, 'this was filmed just outside of Airdrie' and I swear to god my kids believe that all depressing and dystopic movies are filmed there because why wouldn't you believe that? It's completely plausible.

It's especially weird because Okotoks and Cochrane are actually nice if you don't want to be in Calgary and want something with some quaint qualities. But Airdrie? It's a ginormous Evanston with a waaaaaaay worse location. Makes no sense.

There's enough shopping and stuff in Airdrie where you don't really need to go to Calgary on weekends and I imagine a lot of people in Airdrie have friends in Airdrie. I wouldn't move to Airdrie or anything but it seems like any other small Canadian city.

They don't even have their own water supply, dude. It's, like, being-a-human 101: live by a source of water. They fkd up the most basic thing cavemen know to do. Chimpanzee tribes (or whatever they're called...flocks?) are smarter.

Plus it's the least scenic terrain I can imagine. No river valley (obviously), no hills, nothing striking, no beauty. It's a farmer's field a bunch of builders put up homes on using building materials Calgarians didn't want.

I will say when I'm craving a chain restaurant alongside a highway it's a great place to go, so they have that.

If you ever need to find out how much a place sucks just simply google “things to do in (insert city name)”

Top result for Airdrie is going to an antique store called where on earth did you get that. Runners up include bowling, playgrounds and the pool. You should be done seeing all of Airdries amenities by noon, which still leaves enough time to go to Calgary and actually do something fun.

I really enjoyed living in Airdrie when I did. But I don't like living in the city.

Granted there was 40 000 less people at the time. I'd probably hate it now

It does look a bit ####e in the Wiki image:

Spoiler!

Just a massive highway bisecting it. It's not a flattering angle, though I'm not sure Airdire has one. Woof.

I mean, it looks easy enough to wall off...so its got that going for it, which is nice. They can keep the Boston Pizza and Mr. Mike's.

15 minutes from downtown though. On Sunday morning at 4 am when driving 200km/hr.

We're called Xennials (1977-85'ish); late Gen X & elder millennials have more in common with each other than the larger generations they fall into. Like the glory of Oregon Trail, dammit! And...well that's it. Still pretty solid.

Not thread worthy. Anyone ever try those headband with earphones things so you can listen while sleeping or on the side? They seem too inexpensive meaning they are probably crap.

They're not the worst, but if you have trouble sleeping there is something that is the best:

soundcore Sleep A20 by Anker Sleep Earbuds

These things are amazing. I have been wearing them nightly since July. I'm a side sleeper and they're 90% comfortable. The 10% is sometimes you can kind of feel them, but then you just mush your pillow around until you don't, anymore. It's not a problem at all.

I've never had the battery run out on me.

I'll drift off with a book tape for 45 minutes. Then I usually wake up in the wee hours for a reverse siesta. I'll put on music or my book tape again and chill out until I fall asleep. I leave them in the whole night, so not taking them on and off. I have it set up to double tap the right bud to play/pause my media. Left is a double tap for bluetooth media or built in white noise (there are a bunch of selections for white noise). Right triple tap is volume up and left triple tap is volume down.

These make insomnia fairly bearable, if that's what you're trying to address. I couldn't live without these things now. A total life changer.

If you side sleep, anything in your ears likely doesn't work. One of those speakers you can slide into your pillow likely works better if the headband thing doesn't work. TBH, I'd always recommend trying to see if an pair of open ear wireless earbuds work before tinkering with other stuff... unless you're intentionally trying to block sound to deepen your sleep.

Sound quality wise, my understanding is that they're passable. It shouldn't sound like a kazoo, but it should still perform at a respectable $10 headphones level of quality. It should be relatively clear with decent enough max volume, but they're not designed to let you hear subtle quivering of the universe in a guided meditation or whatever.
