Liberals refused the Bloc demands back in October when they attempted their power move. They have since voted non-confidence against the Liberal government and made their stance of wanting to topple this government well known.

Bloc is in the driver's seat at the moment and have lots to gain from a new election including potential opposition party status.

Conservatives decisively win B.C. federal byelection, dealing another blow to Trudeau

The Conservatives comfortably won a federal byelection in the Cloverdale—Langley City riding, dealing yet another blow to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's Liberal Party.

Tamara Jansen, who held the seat from 2019 to 2021, won decisively over the Liberals' Madison Fleischer and the NDP's Vanessa Sharma, securing almost two-thirds of the vote.



Fleischer, a local business owner and community leader, had faced questions from a local Métis community organization about her claims to Indigenous heritage before the vote.

Ah yes, Tamara Jensen won, on her way to victory in the federal riding of Cloverdale-Langley City. Jansen has 593 votes, Liberal Madison Fleischer at 163. Voter turnout was pathetic at just under 13%. This was a Liberal seat before John Aldag resigned.

At the same time, she cast doubt on Darwinian evolution and climate change research published by NASA scientists.

Cloverdale-Langley City’s Tamara Jansen has been in full damage control mode this week after photos surfaced of a racist “Black Pete” Christmas pageant hosted in 2016 at a greenhouse owned by the Conservative candidate.

Conservative officials were quick to defend Jansen, who runs a plant nursery out of her Langley greenhouse, noting she did not personally wear blackface even though she attended the annual Christmas event hosted at her greenhouse for years.

Looks like Trudeau has company on that . . . file.

Are you familiar with the black Pete tradition in Holland? I am guessing that's what this is in reference to as many green houses are owned by dutch descendants. Call it racist if you want but it has nothing to do with race.

Jansen is a prominent social conservative and anti-abortion activist who is a senior member of ARPA Canada — a political arm of Reformed Christian churches — which says its mission is to “bring a biblical perspective to our civil authorities.”

The Conservative candidate has been a vocal critic of abortion and assisted-dying, but she’s been outspoken on a few other issues too.

For example, on multiple occasions, Jansen has promoted obscure blogs on the topic of “Young Earth Creationism” — the idea God literally created the Earth in six days only a few thousand years ago.

One creationist blog Jansen shared, titled “a defence of six-day creation,” states: “Yes, scientific theories do appear to discredit that creation account. But be patient. In time it will be seen that those humble Bible believers were right all along: it was a six-day creation.”

I’d argue they know the NDP will prop up the government because the NDP has more to lose so regardless of how the Bloc votes it doesn’t inform us of their preference.

There also an interesting question of even in a vote of non-confidence we’re to go through it’s still open whether or not it they want it to go through. If frame it as it’s currently more politically damaging for the Bloc to support the current government then to vote for an election but they would prefer an election to occur when the cons or liberals are in minority territory than majority.

So their vote is based on the likelihood of the NDP supporting the government and the balance between not wanting to look like they support a government and there bed opportunity to hold the balance of power.

You are overthinking it. If an election were held today the Bloc would pickup a lot of seats. It is in their best interest to want an election.

Questions around the party’s vetting process emerged after a candidate running in a byelection in B.C. scrubbed mention of herself being Métis from her Liberal-affiliated social media accounts after a separate Métis society raised questions about her claims.

In a statement provided through the party, Madison Fleischer said she removed the identifier from biographies “to ensure there was no confusion.”

She she said was in the process of putting together an application to apply for citizenship with Métis Nation British Columbia and self-identifies as Metis based on her understanding of great-grandmother’s heritage.

The Waceya Métis Society, which is one of the nearly 40 chartered communities represented by Métis Nation British Columbia — which is not affiliated with the B.C. Métis Federation — raised concerns about Fleischer’s claims after a meeting on Nov. 23 where Callum Robinson, the group’s vice-president, said she provided no evidence to back up her claim outside of saying that her great-grandmother was from North Dakota.
