In an age* where it's easy to forget about shows I'm interested in watching, skipping this Dexter will be supremely easy. I didn't even know it existed until it was brought up in this thread.
*This might mean the age of TV we're in, or my own forgetful age.

I actually think they did a pretty good job with the cast. The actor for Batista looks like a dead ringer. If it gets good reviews I will check it out but one can never be too cautious with these reboots.

They may well look and like them, but just seem too cringy to me to have all the actors trying to impersonate well known characters.
Can you imagine if BCS went with younger actors pretending to be Mike and Gus?

Hopefully he's a better actor. David Zayas is a horrible, horrible actor.

You could argue BCS was more cringe given Saul, Gus, and Mike were considerably older looking despite the fact they were in a timeline when they would have been considerably younger than what how they appeared. Mike portraying a tough guy could barely walk by the end of BCS for crying out loud so you really had to turn a blind eye to the age of some of the main players. I don't know how you do a younger Dexter spinoff while surrounding him the same actors for Doakes, Bastista, etc and try to portray it as realistic and I see nothing cringe about it.

I was more confused about the fact Mike's granddaughter looked the exact same age as she was in BB.

IMDB not always correct of course, but it does list her for 10 episodes. I assume she plays the work mentor who gets killed at the end of the season. Or she's corrupt or a killer and Dexter kills her.

All things considered being not the same actors and the creative restraints around where this can and can't go, I think they nailed it. I didn't expect to be saying that.
Was lukewarm at best going in and expecting to lose interest quickly, but that was OG Dexter through and through! (if this was 14 years earlier). From the sets to the lines, to the musical themes.
The girl that plays Deb was just uncanny. Her expressions were on point.
Masuka and Batista too. Like they weren't exactly their main show characters, but what you would imagine their younger versions to be.
Pretty cool.
Edit: Small quibble, but Christian Slater is nothing like Harry in this. But he is so likable that it will probably be water under the bridge.

I like that there's very little rehashing or exposition around the code like they know the audience are fans and they jump right into Harry setting Dex loose on targets with the code already studied and rehearsed.
That's how you hit the ground running.

Decided to check this out after the good reviews in this thread, and I actually enjoyed it quite a bit. I agree, the actors are all spot-on with their characters except for Slater who I agree is nothing like the original Harry. But he’s still very good.
The kid playing Dexter is perfect. The mannerisms, the voice, everything. Same with the girl playing Deb.

I'm not really a fan of this concept of younger actors impersonating the original cast, and thought 90s music/culture stuff was a little too over the top.
Lots of cringe all around for me, but definitely watchable and I'll keep watching.
At times it felt like I was listening to Michael C Hall reading an audiobook with people acting out the scenes in the background.

I’d love this but don’t have Paramount + and don’t want another subscription.

I don't have Paramount + either, so I had to use other means to watch it.

Thought it was decent. Nothing great and some moments where I was rolling my eyes at the awful/lazy writing, but that was the norm for me with this show post Trinity killer season(and some of that Jimmy Smits season too).
6.5/10.
