Here is a ranking of the Flames' forwards top speed and league percentile using NHL's EDGE stats. I included some non-Flames for reference. For any stats under the 50th percentile, I had to estimate the actual percentage from the graph. Some notes:
Only 5 forwards are at the 50th percentile or above.
Kakko would be the 3rd slowest forward on the Flames roster. (Klapka's number might be hindered by a small sample size, Pelletier's too).
M. Pospisil 24.06, 99
R. Lomberg 22.77, 84
M. Coronata 22.56, 77

It's no secret that I want us to grab Kakko. I just feel like he's needing the right place to pop. For those who thinks he's a slow skater, he really isn't, he just plays with a slower pace. I'd call him a floater before I called him slow.
To play devils advocate he only played well in the playoffs when there was less pressure and no fans in the stands.
I think it would be a pretty bad trade for Vancouver though as I like what Pettersson brings to the table and am not that high on Byram so the drop off from Pettersson to Cozens is not worth it.
Pettersson must have a NMC so doubt he waives for Buffalo less than a year into his monster 8 year contract
If the Canucks do decide to be idiotic and dump Pettersson this is the year to do it. His NMC doesn’t kick in till next year.

Yeah because what they need is MORE organizational instability.
Buffalo has the 5th lowest payroll in the league. Adams has been building the team (with this being his 4th season), including a bottoming out drafting 1st Overall after Season 1 (in Draft #2 for him).
The Sabres situation is only dire if you look a larger window of time than you actually should be looking at.
They have some structural issues (no #1 centre, because the organization poisoned their relationship with the one they had). They're on pace to draft Top-5, and that's exactly what they need at this stage. After they draft another centre, then they can go get aggressive about their immediate needs.
The most Buffalo Sabres thing they could do right now is panic prematurely. The owner should be going to Montreal to help tell the players that they're all in this together, and they're building something. Everything else is just useless noise.
They should have never hired Ruff to begin with. Terrible hire.

I find it a little hard to believe Pospisil is in the 99th percentile (though he's certainly got speed) and Coleman (unless he's slowed greatly this year) is in the 20th.
That said, there are 12 forwards on a lineup and therefore having 5 above the 50th percentile seems fairly middle of the pack, no?

And they could get an actual goalie.

Have not read the whole article TBF, but surely Francis must realize that
A) Kadri & Huberdeau are doing alright at the moment and Huberdeau is near the top of the team in points. There is no reigniting Huberdeau.
B) The style played by Huberdeau & Bennett in Florida would not be replicated here and their success there has no bearing on what or how they'd do in Calgary.
I have thought if Bennett gets to July 1 the Flames will be calling like they did with Monahan last summer. Most of the Florida roster are on team friendly deals and signed recently like Tkachuk and Reinhart. Benny might be willing to stay there for $6-6.5M but I suspect he could push for $8M if he gets to free agency. If things go poorly in Toronto this spring I can see Treliving using some of those Tavares/Larner funds to go after Bennett/Ekblad.
