IIRC, The Tsuut'ina planned to put a medium-sized concert hall in their Taza Park area but I don't currently see any plans for one on their website.

Would be pretty funny for two of the top Calgary music venues to be on the same reserve outside the city.

Taza Park is immediately beside Grey Eagle, so maybe they're including it within what they conceptualize as Taza Park?

My hope for the Saddledome land is an amphitheater to be a permanent replacement for the Coke Stage with covered seats for a few thousand and a large lawn beyond that can fill up for the bigger shows.

That’d be great. My first thought was the Hollywood Bowl but had a bit of pause thinking how it’d basically be shut down for half the year due to weather here, but then places like the Budweiser Stage in Toronto make it work, so it could definitely work here.
That’d be a way better setup for Coke Stage and would give a really cool venue option outside of Stampede (and probably take some things away from Princess Island Park, which is fine honestly).

The OffSpring concert there was probably the most fun concert I've ever been to

I saw the Cult / Guns 'n Roses concert there.
GNR wasn't a household name, but they would be 60 days later. The crowd hated them.

I wonder if they could expand the BMO amphitheatre tucked in behind the Dome. It’s a sneaky awesome little spot.

Only reason I don't see it happening is the Coke stage is for free Stampede concerts. They pay the $50k-$100k appearance fee for the artists/band and their only revenue is whatever people paid to come into Stampede that day that wouldn't have been there if that band wasn't playing.
So then they'd have to have a bunch of non Stampede shows during the rest of the short summer months to justify the tens of millions (possibly more?) to build a modern amphitheater with thousands of seats.

Budweiser stage in Toronto works because they're a major concert hub. The summer line up of Budweiser shows is bigger than Calgary's entire annual concert line ups across all venues.
This past season they had Neil Young, 21 savage, Hardy, Modest Mouse and the Pixies, Brooks and Dunn, Tegan and Sara with the Arkells, Maroon 5, Santana with Counting Crows, Creed, Slash, Tate McRae, Limp Bizkit, Train, Red Hot Chilli Peppers (two night stand), The killers (two night stand) Alanis Morrisette with Joan Jett (two night stand), Tyler Childers, Sean Paul, New Kids on the Block, Avril Lavigne, Thirty Seconds to mars, Imagine Dragons (two night stand), Drake, Kings of Leon, Korn, Vampire Weekend etc.
That's leaving out a ton of standard Canadian artists as well. They're use of that amphitheater for their summer concert series is crazy, it's almost nightly, big shows. Calgary would be lucky to get 5 or 6 medium to big artists in theirs, and that would be taking from the Saddledome/new arena, where Toronto still has major concerts at Scotiabank place and Rogers stadium.

Oh for sure, I assumed you knew I was just kind of putting it out there for others reading. But again, I just don't see how it would work for the Stampede to build it for the few non Stampede shows they could attract in our short summer season. I'm guessing it would end up with more free Stampede (usually 10 coke stage shows per Stampede) shows than paid admission shows each summer.

Put a ring of fire on the top and then you can host concerts year round. Great for some Johnny Cash covers.

I think a good use of the space would be a stadium. They desperately need to replace McMahon, and having it there makes it available for Stampede use. It would also help generate ongoing flow, to help keep the restaurants viable in the area.
The owner of Vagabond told me that they lost money 300 days of the year, made enough from Flames games to stay open, and their entire annual profit came from the 10 days of Stampede. More crowds in the area means more profitable days for the restaurants.

I break ground at Scotiabank Place all the time and nobody ever videos me doing it! I feel a little left out.
