One thing to consider about Kakko is that he's paid $2.4M this year, is a RFA next year, and then a UFA after that.
If he pops for us, he'll need to get paid, and may well be a flight risk, as he'll likely want a 1 year contract next season to get him to UFA.

Dach was still under his ELC when traded. So, Montreal was bargaining for some cheaper years and control.

Wait, can he just go to arbitration, accept the one year deal and go to free agency the next season? If that's an option then I wouldn't even consider trading assets for him. He'd almost assuredly take the arb deal and then go pick his team the next season.

Kerin alongside the 2nd might work, but I doubt Kerins has much value around the league.
Kuznetzov would be another potential piece. 2nd+Kuznetzov.

Yes those are probably closer to the prices NYR wants
Newhook:
2023-Jun-27 Traded from Colorado Avalanche to Montreal Canadiens for Gianni Fairbrother, round 1 pick in the 2023 draft (Mikhail Gulyayev) and round 2 pick in the 2023 draft (Ethan Gauthier)
I don't think I'd pay that for Kakko

Miller contributes way more to the Canucks overall than Pettersson does and it's not even close. But Pettersson makes more sense for the Canucks to keep over Miller due to his age. If the rumors going back multiple seasons is true that the 2 simply cannot get along, one of them has continued to play well, while the other shuts down and brings no value to his team when he's upset and the other guy is being mean to him.

Maybe. But for a guy like him - if he finds a win/win scenario where he is getting ice-time and producing, he will be highly motivated to stick around.

Kuzmenko and a 5th rounder for Kakko is the best I would do. Just dont see how he fits on the Flames.

Kuzmenko would have extreme negative value to the Rangers due to his cap hit.

“There’s a rumor going around that Terry Pegula, the owner, may be going to Montreal to meet the team on Monday,” revealed Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast. “That means to me one of two things, either he’s making changes or he’s saying ‘this is the group and this is who we are going with.'”
“It’s not often that an owner goes on the road either with the team or to meet the team so obviously it’s a big day and a big meeting for the Sabres,” said Friedman.

What we do know for certain is that the Sabres did indeed hold a team meeting on Monday and regardless of the contents of that meeting it sounds like it has taken a toll on the players in the Sabres locker room. According to a report from Montreal Canadiens insider Eric Engels, the Sabres have now cancelled their scheduled practice at the Bell Centre today following that meeting.

Yikes, no I wouldn't bank on that if I was Conroy. He's been all about young, cost controlled players if he's acquiring. I wouldn't want him relying on a player liking his situation and the city more than the chance to test free agency in order to retain past one more season after spending significant assets to acquire him.
That's poor, risky management this early on in a rebuild, imo.

I wouldn't want to move on from Kerins at this point, but if he either or Kuznetzov could pull of a trade like that? Worth it.
The one thing I do look at NYR and see is an impatient organization who seems to have identified a problematic leadership group that they seem to want to move on from.
...time for Conroy to slap some spitshine on Coleman and Kadri, and give them a new leadership group. Naz almost signed with NYI, ya gotta think he'd be open to NYR? Coleman would probably be a great fit for them as well. They need some 'fixers', as Tree used to say.

How would they afford Kadri without us retaining 50% for the entirety of the contract?

Im not sure it would be a "panic" type trade though.
The club has been in disarray for years and years, they have now lost 10 straight and they have a coach in year 1 of his deal.
A serious change is a must at this point, and barring a change in the GM chair, (which doesnt seem to be in the cards as it would just mean another coaching change now or at seasons end) it only leaves one real option to accomplish that.
I agree though that the Flames should and very likely would, be all over that.
Cozens seems like a dream get at this point, but with whats being reported, sounds like something major is coming.
Fascinating to watch unfold if nothing else.

I'm not challenging the bolded part as that certainly feels to be the case, but when does Kerins! get noticed? I understand he came up unconventionally through the ECHL, but some big numbers in junior and he seems to be maturing and figuring the pro game out. Being the leading scorer in the AHL at his age isn't that common. Most of the times it's older AHL vets who are atop the AHL scoring leaders. Last year was the exception with Bourque being up there. I wonder when he starts getting people talking more.

The Sabres need a new owner. For all the flack Edwards gets he is still nowhere near the level of bad that Pegula is
