So uh .... Christia Freeland resigned from cabinet. On the day of budget update. Geezuz what a mess. This is right after Sean Fraser left cabinet too.

Trying to distance herself from some of the Liberal disasters. Finances being one of those disasters.
Probably to try and set herself up for a run at the leader of the party.

I thought that too on reading her resignation letter, which hints at a significant break with Trudeau including in relation to this silly tax holiday.
But I don't think she has anything close to the charisma needed to be a party leader, which has been demonstrated over and over again in her public appearances, and it would not surprise me if she just wants to avoid having to deliver (and be further associated with) the tire fire of an announcement we may expect later today so she can remain part of the Liberals' leadership group after Trudeau has ridden into the sunset.

Out of the two, Fraser is the bigger loss for the future of the Liberals.

I don’t know. PP has shown that charisma or even general likability isn’t particularly important so long as the competition is a big enough disaster.

That's true, though being a mean girl may mimic charisma for some audiences.

Her brand is pretty much poisoned, as is her record.
IT sounds like Fraser is going to take a run at provincial politics.
Freeland might be smart to go after the Liberal leadership in Ontario after the next election as there will probably be a vacancy there and try to rehabilitate her image.
We know that Freeland won't be delivering the update today, a nasty little trick to go with the house rising for Christmas tomorrow.
It feels like in the next cabinet shuffle that Trudeau is going to appoint the unelected Mark Carny, which is surprising that he wants any part of this sinking ship.

How bad are things that she couldn’t wait until after delivering the budget? this government is truly a disaster.

I hope he does, he was one of the few bright spots on cabinet for Trudeau. Knowledgable, personable, and pragmatic on the housing file. Also young and motivated. I susepect he'll try and lead the Nova Scotia Liberals after their waxing last month. I think he could rebuild that party and seriously challenge Tim Houston in 2028.
I am definitely looking forward to the Liberals in the next 12-18 months after they get stomped on in the election. I would like to see what rises from the ashes with a rebuild. I wouldn't mind someone like Nate Erskine-Smith taking a run at the party leadership, or at least becoming a Cabinet Minister. Hopefully there are some new faces that emerge on the scene too. They just have to be careful not to go down the OLP road of having people like Bonnie Crombie, right-of-center neoliberalist moonlighting as anything else. No more phonies please.

Wait, the guy who was in charge of immigration when they decided to open the doors to to get to 100 million people? The same guy who claimed that there was a vast labor shortage that needed the importation of low skill and low wage workers across the board? The same guy who screamed RACISTS! whenever somebody had feedback about his plans? The same guy who was then in charge of housing and just watched as the cost of housing ####ed people up? That guy?
He only just finally did something?

Just give us an election already; it's so pointless to keep delaying it.
The Liberals themselves are only falling further and delaying any rebuild. Get on with it.
