The best bet for a smaller venue is probably to have it in the suburbs, as is the case in Montreal (Laval) and Vancouver (Abbotsford). Maybe you put it out by Century Downs and CrossIron?

I hope this is the approach that the new Scotia Place will use. Just disappoints me that this city can't have a modern small arena and also a modern stadium, but that rant's for another time.
Went to Ricoh in Toronto for Faith No More years ago. Great spot for that size of show. Corral has awful acoustics, would be so nice to have something this size.
A good medium sized venue needs to be within walking distance of mass transit. I.e off the LRT lines. Don't they still use Max Bell for medium sized concerts?

I think they do Max Bell for Chasing Summer and some smaller stuff. But not nearly that often.
Max Bell is hardly viable for anything at this point.
lol what are you talking about? Both rinks at Max Bell Center are continuously being used and after the 14 million dollar renovations and upgrades the facility is in fantastic condition. What exactly is your gripe? (unless you're speaking strictly concerts than ya, never a good time)

Max Bell was never medium sized concerts, holds 2100 for hockey, and I think around 1500 for concerts. It had a run in the 90's, and a few in the early 2000's mostly catering to rock/punk shows, but dried up after that. I can't remember the last concert I remember being listed at Max Bell.
For 1500, Mac Hall is way better (1800), and Grey Eagle general admission.

Yep. Fantastic hockey arena, never a good concert option. It got used more in the 90's when popular rock bands played small arenas/music halls instead of the arena shows they do now a days.
Fun fact - Max Bell was actually the venue used for Soundgardens music video for My Wave. pretty cool.

Yeah I meant for concerts/pro teams. Max Bell is fine as a Jr A rink or as a Circle-K Classic venue but it's not a Corral equivalent and will never be one.

Wow, actually looking back at the concert history there is insane. I also saw NSync on there in 1998, that can't be right can it? I thought they were a major arena pop band right from the get go. Soundgarden, The Offspring, Sum 41, Radiohead, Matchbox 20, Def Leapord, Beastie Boys, Pearl Jam, Black Crowes, The Cult with Guns N Roses opening, Metallica, The Clash.
Yeah, I remember seeing Bad Religion at Max Bell in '99 and then four years later at Mac Hall. Tough to compare because that Mac Hall show was fresh into their expansion and redevelopment so everything was still newish, but it was night at day.

Yeah lol, Max Bell was a humdinger of a venue back in my teens early 20s. That's why I brought it up. Didn't think it was that small a venue tbh. Weed and booze fog the memory, plus the moshpits.
Tons of great acts rolled through there.
I suppose that'd be an actual good investment opportunity, a mid sized concert venue somewhere along the LRT lines.

Yeah I found that a little surprising as well but alas, time clouds memories.
Its no Original Mac Hall Ballroom though!!
