We need to not do the Hamilton and Hamonic trades again, (although in isolation the Hamilton trade was a fine one). We need to patiently build.
And I would add that I have no reason to believe Conroy isn’t going to be patient. I’ve said for his whole tenure, patience seems like a strong suit for Conroy.

Athletic with a piece this morning, one trade proposal for each team.
Flames proposal: Marco Rossi for Sharangovich and a 2nd
Panthers proposal: 3rd round pick for Tyson Barrie
Senators proposal: Rasmus Andersson for Shane Pinto and a 2nd
Jets proposal: Mackenzie Weegar for Brad Lambert.
All seem fair to me aside from the Weegar trade. Admittedly don’t know a great deal about Lambert but I think it would take quite a lot to move Weegar.

I agree with this for the most part. But if the right opportunity came up where the Flames could add a young center and pick up a pick (like the Sharangovich trade) it would be something I would be looking at. Not saying it is possible at all but it Utah (currently on the bubble) wanted to make a push and the following was on the table I would pull the trigger
Kadri (20% retained) and Pachal
For
Hayton and a 1st
No idea if it would be but Utah may want a guy with playoff experience who is currently a much better center than Hayton and a 5/6 dman for playoff pushes this year and next when they are in a pretty good cap position. Flames get young center who has done almost nothing at the NHL level and a first.

I don’t understand why the Wild would do that.

I would do the first 2 for sure. I don’t think the Wild would.
Even the Barrie one seems to goo to be true. That’s a Brad Treliving special. Draft pick for a player who will be a healthy scratch here most nights.
Weegar has a lot more value.

The issue is in 2 or 3 years there won’t be a McTavish available. I’m less sold on Cozens.

I would not do the Andersson nor the Weegar trades. No reason to trade Weegar unless it is for an absolute haul and somehow the Flames are getting more for Andersson in that scenario than for Weegar, despite Weegar being a better player.

In 2-3 year we should have drafted players better than him.
I’m still the mindset the rebuild hasn’t started yet until we make our first pick n in the 25 draft.
That interview with the Utah gm was a good listen. You don’t go out and sign free agents or makes trades when your are rebuilding. You get as many picks as possible and start growing the team and when those players are ready and making a mark in the NHL you add to them.
I’m not against McTavish but what are we adding him to ? Zary and Coronato ? Sharangovich, Coleman, Kadri, Huberdeau?

Might draft better than McTavish. He was a 3rd overall pick and until this year was progressing pretty well. Can’t have such rigid rules that you miss on a player that isn’t ever available outside of a GM doing something stupid.

If Conroy trades Andersson for Pinto and a 2nd he should be fired, that's a terrible return
Same with Weegar for Lambert one for one

I think the other thing that seems lost so far in the McTavish discussion is that Greg Cronin might be the worst coach in the NHL right now.
I would place a lot more emphasis on McTavish’s previous years. What ever it is that’s going on in Anaheim right now is not a good situation and it’s not just McTavish that seems to be languishing.
It’s not just Cronin either. Verbeek deserves some heavy criticism too. He’s apparently had Gibson and Zegras on the block for years. That type of festering and a hard-ass coach will completely neuter your team.
If there’s a trade to be made for the Flsmes to get McTavish out of Anaheim, I’d have any one not named Parekh or Wolf, or any of the Flames own 1sts, on the table.
Zary too. I wouldn’t move Zary.

Just fired, or immediately fired?
After all, we need/must have massive overpayments for both. Anything less? Fired.

Yeah the Rossi one for sure was too tilted towards the Flames, and Barrie doesn't get more than a 5th IMO

Immediately fired before he can make the trade.
In the Andersson case at least, not as bad in the Lambert deal because you could at least argue he's a top end C prospect.
It's not about an overpayment for each but for both guys the equivalent of a 1st and 2 2nds is the fair market value and Pinto + 2nd is nowhere near that based on Pinto's play the last couple years

The Flames are 7 points away from a top 5 draft pick, 8 points out of top 5 in the league. Very likely the Flames are drafting top 10 this year, close to top 5. Should net a blue chip C prospect.
The Flames have 10 draft picks in the first 3 rounds the next 2 seasons. Without any other trades which likely happen and add more draft capital.
If the Flames can package one of our defensive prospects, which we have an abundance of, with a pick or two for a young C with 1st line potential you do it every day of the week.
Parkeh, Brzustewicz, Mews are my only untouchable defense prospects.
Something like...
Morin + NJ 2024 1st for Cozens
Morin + NJ 2024 1st + COL 2024 2nd for MacTavish.
Anyone saying Cozens has peaked should take a look at Reinhart's stats. Very similar trajectory. Either him or MacTavish should be at peak performance in 5 years, perfect time for when the Flames are looking to be consistent contenders.
The Flames would still have 8-9 draft picks in top 3 rounds next two seasons, a deep defensive prospects pool, plus a high potential C prospect the organization currently lacks.
Defense prospect + pick(s) for MacTavish or Cozens. Make it happen Conroy!

Last couple of years? He's struggling mightily this year but had a career high in PPG last season, even after missing half of it.

I know for a fact he’s already received better offers for both.
Those are completely low balled offers.
I’d trade Barrie and Drive Yegor straight to YYC if those offers were on the table today, but they aren’t.

This is why it’s a pivotal time for Craig and he needs to start looking at some of the offers and firming up his ask. As we know so far he’s been trying to remain competitive this year because of the hot start, but I’m told that the “ship has sailed” and the Flames could be looking to make moves here shortly.
I personally feel like with how close we are to the bottom we should be moving some of the vets, the ones that don’t want to be here and the ones with most value.
