Hey, look at that! A missed facemask that probably would have given the Bengals the lead? Do I hear "fake sport"?

It's weird to me that that's a first down off that punt. Sure, you got the ball off the deflection but you didn't get past the line to gain. I don't really care it just always seemed illogical to me that that's how it works.

Its a muffed punt....doesnt matter how far the ball travels. As soon as the Cowboy player touches the ball and drops it, its a change of possession.

I understand that that's the rule, I'm not saying they got the call wrong, it's just weird that that counts as a change of possession. If the guy caught it, ran 5 yards and fumbled it, fine, but it just doesn't compute for me.
Of course I'd be fine if all punts were live until they hit thr gound, you can catch your own punt, fun times ensue.

Whether the ball flies 40 yds or 4 yds...once its past the line of scrimmage if the receiving team touches the ball it becomes live.
Not sure how else you could call it, in that if the kick wasnt blocked but the guy touched it 50 yds downfield, it would be the same scenario as what occurred.
Not trying to explain it, Im just not sure how else you could rule it other than a fumble/muff.

Jerry runs it like a business. He'll wait for McCarthy's contract to expire and then hire the next coach. He doesn't spend money paying guys to not coach his team.

What exactly would the Cowboys gain the rest of the season by firing McCarthy? Their season was over a long time ago and there's no point in shuffling the deck chairs. I think the only time you should fire a head coach in this situation is if he's clearly lost the locker room (Eberflus).

Does Dallas have a hot coaching prospect ? They could see what they are about in the remaining weeks.
They lost the coordinators and they went on to do better things.

No. Bears put up less than 150 total yards offense on Sunday and Williams will be on his 3rd OC to start next season. That's simply not how you develop a young QB. They should have never fired Waldron. Teams should only fire coaches when the season is still in the balance or the locker room is turning on the coach.

Their OC is Brian Schottenheimer who had that job last year.
Mike Zimmer is the DC. If they had a young up and comer on the defensive staff than they should not have dusted off Zimmer. Schottenheimer has been around for over a decade in OC or similar roles and I don't think anyone views him as an up and comer now that he's 51.
Kellen Moore was their up and comer but he failed spectacularly with the Chargers last year and declined the chance to be their interim Head Coach. Dan Quinn is a known commodity and I don't know if he'd have more success than McCarthy with that roster and the injuries they have had.

Isn't Moore in Philly having Barkley set records?

I don't see a team that's not trying type of thing. Plus at this point does an extra win or two really help? I'd probably just finish out the season too and start getting a list of coaches together. Until Jerry hires a real GM and gets his fingers out of running the on field football team...it's going to be much if the same.
They are a good business...Just a mediocre on field product.

Yeah but how did he do with the Chargers last year? Philly has a lot of talent...and it's not like the Cowboys can fire McCarthy today and hire Moore.
