That's what people were saying with the Rangers, bang he is moved without retention or with the Rangers adding anything

Problem is that I do believe that if waived he'd have to report in order to get paid and playing in the AHL isn't always a picnic.
Although I do agree with others, this really seems like Anaheim throwing NYR a life jacket and I dont really understand why.

I guess RHDs are at a premium. No risk really for Anaheim but the Rangers get off the hook pretty easily here.

Fantastic. In the division. On one had, the guy can't play NHL calibre defense. On the other hand, a lot of Pacific forwards about enter concussion protocol with no repercussions for it.

Rangers just cleared 8m in cap space, without moving a pick etc...
Really curious on their next move...

Trouba at $4M in a single retention transaction will have buyers.
At $2M in a double retention transaction, every playoff team in the league would want that

I like it for the Rangers. They have the depth to weather the loss, and now they can be big players in the expiring contract market.

That's $8M that just opened up and I do wonder if they are hunting for a big acquisition now.
They have all their 1sts, pieces like Kakko, Chytil, Schneider, Miller as U-25 pieces that rebuilding teams might have interest in, and prospects like Perreault, Othmann, etc.
For Anaheim it's just Verbeek doing what he wants to do and adding more Truculence to the team and they have $19M of cap space so not like they have anything to worry about this season or next.
Gudas, Trouba, Johnston ... lots of dirt in Anaheim now.
|
NYR could upgrade from Smith at RW. And there's now a hole on D that the Duck guy they got ain't gonna fill.

Have to think the Rangers make a play for Andersson now. Their blueline was already extremely bad outside Fox. Now I don't think they even have enough players to dress a full lineup (related: Vaakanainen is injured).

That's just beyond stupidity.

Exhibit A in the pitfalls of rushing a rebuild.
Ottawa also hasn’t figured out what Jets management has: As a small-market Canadian team you gotta have a real good idea of how likely a player will be to stick around before move out assets to bring them in. Debrincat wasn’t happy about being in Ottawa from day one.

Anaheim had high odds of getting Trouba for free if he had been waived.

How do big market teams always seem to wiggle their way out of cap hell? I get the ducks needing leadership but that’s a horrid $8 million contract . Not only did the rangers get huge cap relief they somehow recieved a 4th round pick doing so.

Being a big market team is like playing NHL25 on easy mode. There are teams lining up to help.

^ Makes you wonder what the cost will be for the Oilers to rid themselves of Nurse... It might not be as much as we think, especially with the rising cap. Maybe they're not stuck with him?

Prob only for 6 months at most since academic year ends June 30. And Ducks are probably done mid-April so even shorter. Separation is obviously not ideal but they have the financial means to provide her support in the interim.
