I think adding a legit top 4 D is a way bigger hole then a 3C for them.
They have guys they can plug at 3c if needed but their D core looks rough.

Then those dudes were wrong. What can I say.
As for that proposed fan trade for Lundell and Ekblad, I've given up hope on the Flames getting Lundell. There was a small window of opportunity IMO where that could have happened and that was last season when he was considered to be struggling. The cup run put that baby to bed.
It looks like Conny is knocking on all the doors that have centers available with the latest to be Minny.
I'm kind of in on the idea of Conny swinging for Rossi and then landing Kakko from the Rangers to really put a youthful spin on the FW group.
It'd be a fun shake up.

I think Ekblad could be a Flame this offseason TBH.
I don't know if the Panthers have really prioritized re-signing him.

Lundell was immediately a PPG when he got top six minutes at the start of the year when Barkov went down. Florida's center depth is probably the best in the league so he plays on the third line and doesn't get really any PP time either so his number don't pop as much as they should. But he's very important for them and just signed a six year extension.
Luostarinen would be a center to look at from Florida, plays on the wing but is naturally a C. He could be a shutdown type second line center given the opportunity.

Ekblad is still an important piece for the Panthers. But unless his signs an absolute sweetheart deal, I expect they’ll let him go this summer.
Which means they’re likely in the market for help on D, and Andersson fits their needs to a T. But it’s hard to see what a deal looks like. The Panthers aren’t going to trade away a significant roster piece, their prospect pool is pretty thin, and they’re right up against the cap.
Agreed that Luostarinen fits Calgary’s needs. If the Panthers intend to re-sign Bennet, he’s probably available. If they intend to let Bennet walk, Luostarinen is likely slotting into #3 C on the Panthers going forward.
From the Panther’s POV, that’s a deal they prefer to make in the summer.

Interesting thought and I could see it with his relationship with Huberdeau and Weegar being very tight. I have thought about the Flames throwing huge money at Bennett as well if he makes it to July 1 but I think there will be a lot more competition there

I don't think the Flames make a pitch for Ekblad, doesn't make much sense. Doesn't really fit what we are trying to do here and I think it would be a lofty payday to have him sign here.
I could see Bennett being a target, but almost zero chance he signs here. Would have better opportunities likely elsewhere and for a long time he was the whipping boy for the tram, media and fans..... players remember these things.

Sabres are scrambling.
The solution seems obvious. They need some vet leaders on that team.
I would love for the flames to take advantage.

Regarding their prospects, Samoskevich has been very good, considering he's mostly been given fourth line minutes but has still managed to produce. I see him as a Coronato level prospect but he's a winger not center. I think he was third on the speed burst list that was just published after Stutzle and someone else can't remember who, he consistently beats people wide. I could see him being available because he's not a core piece and they are loaded offensively already.
edit: this was the list

Looks like Carolina is going to terminate Brendan Lemieux's contract. Must have a bigger payday overseas.

With the rumors circling I wouldn't be mad if this was our lineup for the rest of the year. Couple considerations would be not parting with futures/draft picks but leveraging what we can get for the vets going out.
Sharangovich – Backlund – Coronato
Pelletier – Zary – Kakko
Huberdeau – Zegras – Pospisil
Lomberg – Rooney – Duehr
Weegar – Miromanov
Bahl – Barrie
Bean – Pachal
Wolf
Cooley
In:
Zegras
Kakko
Solovyov
Cooley
Out:
Kadri
Coleman
Kuzmenko
Andersson
Vladar

Adding Bennett to Huberdeau and Kadri would be a colossal mistake.
His game could fall off a cliff in his early 30's.

If Conroy cant get a better center than Zegras he should just not get a center. Getting a one dimensional player who does not do that dimension at an elite level and is also injury prone is just not worth it. Especially with what is going out the door there. I would only be good with that lineup because it is a clear commitment to go all in on getting McKenna and DuPont.

Swap Zegras for Rossi and I think that's an angle to work with.

My preference would be Cozens but Buffalo is on the brink and I just don't think he's available.

Ideally Cozens is that guy. That's what I prefer too.
But actual rumors ( Cps own guys) and not fan preference have linked the Flames to MIN and talking about Rossi, if we were take that info as solid, then I'd prefer Rossi over Zegras. I'd take a lot of players over Zegras. Even if the Flames offense needs a bit of flash and sizzle.

I have a question about cap space.
Is the cap space actual dollars or is it virtual dollars.
Let me know if I understand this correctly....
Player A has a contract that pays him $5M dollars AAV
His actually salary this year is $3.0M dollars.
He gets traded to B team but A team retains 50% of his salary,
Is that on the fully $5M or is it on the $3M?
