Believe the Wild would be looking for a roster player + as a return.
Nothing more for now, if I hear anything else I will be sure to update

I like Rossi and how he plays. Think he would be a nice target.

Interesting. Minny is thin at center, up against the cap and Rossi gets paid 863K but an RFA due for a raise.
Not sure how the Flames could navigate this to entice the Wild to move him but that would be a good target to go after.
Contracts to take back could be Zucarello, Brodin, Middleton, Foligno, Hartman - but tough to see the Wild majorly disrupting their roster the way its going for them.

Hope I missed the green text, because why would Minnesota do that?

Rossi is the kind of player that Conroy has targetted though. He's a pending RFA, but Calgary can sign him.
Minnies problem is they only have $350K in cap space despite their highest salary being $9M to Kaprizov. It's because they pay $14M in buyout to Suter and Parise (a problem which disappears for the most part after this season). They do have the ability to use LTIR with Zuccarello and Brodin though.
|
I wonder, can they trade a buyout contract? We could take one of those against our cap if they wanted a roster player.

Minny has cap issues and they are going to trade their 23 year old, 3rd leading scorer. and #2 C who is still on his ELC and has no arb rights....while sitting at 17-4-4 and leading the Western Conference.....and having 28M in capspace next year to re-sign/sign anyone they want?
OK then.

Not hard to figure out why Conroy would ask about Rossi, but hard to figure out why Minnesota would listen.
~ 23 year old center going at 0.8 ppg seems like a guy you want to keep around.
~ Minnesota's buyout albatross flies away next year when Rossi is due for a raise.
~ Zuccarello currently on LTIR will come back at some point, but he started the year on the roster so they can fit him in.
~ Rossi has a $850,000 bonus clause. Not sure what the details are, but based on his numbers, he's likely hitting them all. Still, they have room for that next year.
~ They have no room to take on anyone from our roster with any kind of salary higher than Rossi's.
~ They may not be happy with Hartman's contract, but he has a full no move so it's not guaranteed he'd accept to be a salary dump.
Don't know. Don't know why they'd be willing to trade him

I was going to propose something similar, but it is probably Calgary's 1st (from NJ) in lieu of the 2nd to get it done. Maybe another lower pick or prospect comes back.
To MIN
Pospisil
2025 1st (from NJ)
To CGY

I dont see why they would trade Rossi. I also dont really see a roster player they would be interested in as a central piece.
The only one that would get us close is zary, but why?

Just to add, preliminary calls are just that.
Nobody said this is a done deal or that both sides have agreed to anything.
Simply one GM inquiring with another.
I do know:
The Wild were looking to move Rossi in the summer
Yes, his play this year so far could have changed that
Yes they have cap troubles, so we’d need to take a contract dump from them
If people are going to immediately freak out and start over analyzing simple chatter I can stop sharing until I know a trades coming for sure. I’m simply sharing the info I know about some phone calls, I didn’t even guarantee it was Rossi.
I don’t know the cap compliance surrounding any sort of deal, I just know that he’s the only one that really fits what Craig could be looking for and that’s what they think it is.
Don’t shoot the messenger, I post what I hear and not what I want or think should happen. I try to preface my personal thoughts about something I hear before sharing.
A few seem to take this thread far too literal.

I can only speak for myself, but certainly wasn't freaking out. Over analyzing, maybe. I really appreciate the information. Just trying to walk through how it would fit. Love if these initial calls ended up turning into something real as Rossi would be a nice addition. Definitely don't want to give an impression the information isn't appreciated.

I dont really see whose shooting the messenger?
I think people are just speculating if a Rossi trade is realistic and what it might look like.
This is a trade rumour and speculation thread after all.
