Interesting. Can’t say I think the Hawks on paper should be much better than they are now. They have lots of prospects and young players that are early in their development and not much else to help Bedard.
Wonder if this is management doing something (anything) to try to show Bedard they aren’t accepting losing anymore. Bedard could be upset that he didn’t get an invite to the 4 nations.

The Hawks were supposed to be making some improvement and are dead last again. Lots of line blending from what I read in the Athletic.

The Hawks are going absolutely nowhere fast. Hope Bedard gets out of there.

Lots of cap space, lots of prospects, lots of draft picks, including another high one this year, and a destination players tend to like.

You may be right about the speed they will get there, but they have every chance of getting there.

Our bad team is bad! Why is our bad team bad? Must be the coach! The bad team can't possibly be the reason the team is bad.

Problem is they got Bedard too early. They didn't have a great prospect base before they got him. Now they need to get a few more No. 1s like the Oilers did because the support he needs just isn't there. (And he's always looked more to me like a Point than a McDavid).

And this is what happens when you tank hard, sell off your other high picks to make sure you crater.
Cautionary tale and for those around here to chant "Tank Tank Tank"

Hard hole to climb out of, just look up north.

It's a point I think about (and you could argue that Wolf should have been the last piece here because he can ruin a complete tank).

Pittsburgh got Crosby (and Letang luckily) after they'd drafted Whitney 5OA, Fleury 1OA, and Malkin 2OA. Then they added Staal because they sucked one more year.

Contrast with the earlier Pens who drafted Mario in 84 but sort of in a silo, and then it took them 7 years, and 5 or so coaches to get a cup. It wasn't until they drafted Jagr, added Mullen and Murphy among others that they got a cup.

EDIT: maybe Calgary is going to gradually settle to the bottom and run up couple fairly high draft picks culminating in Dupont in 27.

Better early than never I guess. Can’t time that.

Generally you don’t draft #1 unless you have a bad team.

I would suggest this isn't a firing because the team sucks in the standings, it is because the team wasn't happy with how he handed the development of Bedard.
