#1 C and Morrisey isnt a #1 D
LMAO!! indeed.
Oh...and it is best on best regardless of what you claim. Its just limited to 4 countries.
Again the only teams not participating that will be in the Olys that matter are the Czechs and the Swiss.....niether of which is likely to win anything.

Everyone who made this roster can see who was left off.
Nobody is going to risk their spot at the Olympics because this tournament “doesn’t mean anything”.
Maybe it doesn’t to you - it does to them.

Yeah, I agree. Players have consistently said that playing for their country hits differently, so it certainly does mean something to them. This has been confirmed time and time again and it actually even seems that for non-North American players, it's perhaps an even bigger deal.

I would make this a regular thing at the 2-year mark in between Olympics, with some tweaks.
1. The four teams are the three Olympic medalists, and the previous 4-Nations Cup champion. In the event the 4-Nations cup champion wins an Olympic medal as well, the fourth-place Olympic finisher will be entered as the 4th team.
2. Winning the 4-Nations Cup means that country is the host of the next tournament in four years. It can’t just be played in Toronto or Montreal all the time.
It’s a cool idea, and if they commit to it, it could become something great.
It could become a measuring stick for the top contenders in international hockey.
As hosting is not something that is bid on, it is a prize, the players involved would naturally want to have the opportunity to play this tournament in front of their home fans.
And since it’s not a stadium scam, it could actually be an old school national honour to host the event. The best hockey players in the world descend on Stockholm or Moscow or Prague for two weeks, play four games of no holds barred #### you international hockey, and winner gets to host the next party.
Put me on the council, coach, I’m ready.
Poor showings could drastically altar a country’s plans going into the next Olympics.
It absolutely could be something.
If they let it.

Its actually in Montreal and Boston.
I think the plan is to have this every other year moving forward and if Russia ever gets reinstated as an IIHF member, then it will expand to 6.
But the games almost have to be played in NA unless the NHL shuts down for longer than 9 days as they are for this. The logistics and travel would extend it to at least 2 weeks....something both the league and the PA would oppose I would think.

I am sure they will care a bit, but outside of McDavid I can't see guys going balls to the wall for this showcase.
Personally, I would rather have the all-star game. At least you don't get Valamaki or Parayko.
|
You seriously believe these ultra-competitive professional athletes aren't going to care about winning this? At the end of the day, they're going to be wearing their country's logo and there will be a huge amount of personal & national pride on the line. The media has been pushing the dethroning of Canada on the international stage by the Americans for a while now, I expect all the players are pretty invested in coming out on top of this one.

It can't be best on best without guys like Kucherov, Kaprizov, Panarin, Ovechkin, Bobrovsky, Vasilevksi, Shesterkin, Marchenko...

What would a Team Russia look like anyway? 2-3 forwards out of position to fill in at C, but that's a strong team on forward. D is a bit sketchy...
Ovechkin - Malkin - Kucherov
Panarin - Svechnikov - Marchenko
Kaprizov - Barbashev - Nichushkin
Michkov - Buchnevich - Tarasenko
Sergachev -Zub
Provorov - Lyubushkin
Orlov - Zadorov
Shesterkin
Vasilevsky
Bobrovsky

Actually really happy for Valimaki. Had a rough time in Calgary which he also takes some blame for as he couldn't step his game up another level (but he was coming back from injury). I always liked him as a prospect, so I'm not going to dump on him just because he got traded.

So "best on best" doesn't mean players. It means countries, except those guilty of international criminality.

Complains that it’s not best-on-best because there’s only 4 teams.
Also complains about players the calibre of Paryako and Valamaki being in the tournament.
You realize that the 8 teams that would be added to make up an Olympics tournament would be mostly made up of players worse than Paryako and Valamaki, right?

It does seem like Russia struggles to develop elite centres in a similar way that Canada struggles to develop elite goaltenders. Russia does develop elite wingers though.

I think its more that he has 1 point and is barely an NHL defencemen not that he got traded. Finns didnt have a lot of choices though.

Looks like a pretty stereotypical Russian roster to me, I see a bunch of highlight reel goals and a bunch of losses.

More than the 4 teams its the format that diminishes the tournament for me. Just a round robin and a final...tie breaker for spot 2 in then final could be ridiculous. Two of these teams are only playing 3 games lol.
Remember the WC when the U23 team had a dramatic win and were eliminated
