Sounds like the Calgary Police may have murdered an Indigenous man at the Carriage House Inn last week. Chief Neufeld is about to speak to reporters. What I don't understand is why the body camera footage has not been released?
Is there publicly available information that would indicate this was "murder"... or are we just jumping to conclusions and calling it that without having all the information?

Posted this in another thread but yeah not all information is out but sure seems like the police killed someone. Call it murder or whatever you want, it doesn't look good.

ASIRT have stated in their initial report that the man who died was not placed under arrest or told that he was being detained, just attacked by four police constables. Given how slanted ASIRT are known to be in favour of the police, this one is not looking good for the CPS.

The truth will come out in court, but based on what is written in that article, it's hard not to call it that. Replace the word police with the word "teens" and we'd be talking murder. A group of cops beating on an Aboriginal male do not get the benefit of a doubt from me, nor do I give ASIRT the benefit of a doubt to get this right based on their history.

Forget the truth coming out in court - release the body cam footage now, and let us judge for ourselves. Zero chance Neufeld would be throwing his own constables under the bus like this if it was defensible in any way, shape, or form.

I have nothing but respect for police, but they should be held to very high standards. Those standards include releasing body camera footage without delay. The sixth district office is a stone’s throw from the Carriage House Inn. I’d love to see the Indigenous community set up a protest roadblock right on the corner of Heritage and Bonaventure Drive until the body cam footage is released to the public.

You want to build trust in the police, this is not how you do it.

A Calgary police officer has been demoted of seniority in rank for a year after filming and sharing a video of him having sex with a fellow officer without her consent, with other members of the Calgary Police Service (CPS).

The decision was handed down at a CPS professional conduct hearing Wednesday.
Const.

Mike Oakey, 39, pleaded guilty to sharing a video of him and the victim, identified as Const. A.A., having sex, as well as nude pictures of her to several colleagues between 2018 and 2019.
Quote:
In his decision, Manuel said he didn't feel termination was appropriate, citing Oakey's previous record didn't have any disciplinary measures, his "excellent police work" and that his guilty plea reflected remorse.

Oakey was demoted for one year from senior constable level II, which has a salary range of $113,402 to $116,813 to constable, a drop to somewhere between $67,621 and $107,162.

"Such abhorrent behaviour must be condemned," said Supt. Paul Manuel (Ret'd).

"Disrespectful behaviour like this will not be tolerated."
But...

No wonder respect for the police and the institutions that governm them are at an all-time low. That behavior is, very clearly, in fact tolerated. Imagine a world where you can record someone without their consent having sex with them, completely ruin their life, and you don't even ####ing get fired. Instead you have the life/career of the victim ruined, and you will be welcomed back with open arms by your colleagues in due time when your "punishment" is over.

No wonder most women don't bother coming forward when things like this happen to them.

As a cop, I’ll say this - that absolutely should be resulting in a criminal charge. No idea why they chose not to prosecute this.

Sure seem more concerned about their computer system misuse than they did about one of their officers (from the previous discussion)

Is he going Eastbound and Down? A long way to go and no time to get there?

Sadly deplorable actions/conduct don't always equal to chargeable offenses. They are laying charges on what they believe they can prove in court.

Scandal, Health issues or Political aspirations.

Too late for the third one I guess...

Definitely suspect timing with that many years left.
Somethings going to come out and he didn’t want to be associated with it I’m wagering.
