We will never win a shootout again, lol.
Seriously though, thats really unfortunate for a guy who finally found his way into a regular NHL gig.

Awful for Kirkland. Finally makes the big show at 28...and this. Likely would have got a multi-year one way deal with the way he was playing.

Holy that escalated quickly.
Too bad for the guy, best of luck in recovery.

Could still see the flames offering him something like 2 years x 900k. Serviceable guy at a position of weakness

Damn, that's too bad. It was hard enough to make enough of an impression at that age to make the full time roster. Can't see a year of missed hockey leading him to the same opportunity again, unfortunately.

Wow, that is incredibly bad luck for him. Really easy guy to root for.
The good news for him is that he will get his NHL salary all year. Still, he would trade that in a heart beat to be able to keep playing, I am sure.

Sucks for him, absolutely.
But for a guy who has been a career AHLer, a year of guaranteed NHL money will help make the pain go away.

damn, second time in his career he gets a significant shot at the NHL only to be derailed. First, he is called up to the Ducks, plays seven consecutive games and is heading to play in his 8th games when he is t-boned in a car accident; that accident could have ended his career or worse, but it did end his time with the Ducks when after his release from hospital, he is sent back to the minors.
Now he gets the most significant opportunity to stick in the NHL, plays 21 games and likely up for the rest of the season and blows his knee out.
Terrible and disappointing for him.

Was just thinking that. It looked like he was more than just a call up, but a guy who found a role in the NHL and would stick.
That's a serious bummer on what was a really feel good story.

Oh man that sucks for Kirkland, hate to see a guy like that get hurt just when it looks like he's about to maybe get a full time job after grinding for a while

Oh geez, I feel bad for Costco. He finally seemed to have found his way in the league and maybe even was on his way to earning an extension for more than his current 1 year deal.

Assuming a full recovery (and I'm sure he will), I don't see why the Flames wouldn't bring him back next year. Granted he may not stick with the big club, but he'll get another shot I'm sure.
