Right now there’s a thread about a guy who ran over his wife who got manslaughter. They feel he should have gotten murder because obviously he meant to do it. Of course they don’t have any facts to back that up but #### the Charter I guess?

You mean the guy with a history of violence and assault against his partner? The one who held a broken bottle next to neck and asked if she wanted to die? While she was pregnant. The one the judge states “the evidence before me illustrates that the offender had a history of domestic violence toward the deceased, including threats and violent assaults”? The one where he was court ordered to stay away from his victim at the time he ran her over, then drive away?

Yeah, #### the charter indeed. Conviction overturned to a man slaughter charge, in the same way I can get away with murder if I’m wasted. System is ####ed, charter be damned.

Yeah he seems like a piece of #### and I don’t care if he rots, but Charter protections are there for all us. Emotional responses like yours are understandable but there’s no place for that in a court of law.

100%. And also what was that "same way I can get away with murder because I was wasted"? When has that ever been a thing?

For all the talk about “outrage culture” that goes on here it’s surprising that it rarely gets applied to things like reactions to sentencing or issues that “conservatives” more traditionally choose outrage over logic in such as drug addiction, immigration and sentencing.

I love a low-info drama queen. And they seem to multiply faster than rats in a garbage heap any time someone gets any sentence that basically isn’t life in prison.

Oh, this proves you can get away with murder zaddy? There’s going to be a “culture war” against these “types” of people? Canada and its justice system is so bwoken but you’w never weave?

Yeah, more thanks. Then they turn around and whine when they get a ticket and double parking in a school zone “just for a second!”

So people were going onto the shoulder of the road and turning right?

And this made you mad, because they were able to get where they were going quicker, and get more traffic off the road quicker?

You have never driven on the shoulder of a road to turn right before the right turning lane starts?

Have you even lived?

Who doesn’t love having their car pelted with gravel from the shoulder?

Sure but most (clearly not all) people learn from their mistakes at an early age and stop being ######bags when they reach adulthood.

No. we were at least 1.5kms from the turnoff. You are ok with driving on the shoulder? you suck at driving.

and they all were trying to turn left onto 37th.

Well details matter man.

1.5 km is quite a ways to drive in the shoulder. I would agree with that.

Did I miss where the shoulder has now been converted into a lane? We live in a society, man.

We're maybe 2 or 3 years away, if even that long, from becoming one of those places where drivers just go where they want, when they want and traffic laws and controls aren't even considered as a suggestion.

I cheat the lines almost every day. 30 or 40 feet, when it is completely safe, I get home quicker and the people behind me get home quicker.

However, I would never drive 1.5km on the shoulder. Two different things.

1.5km is pretty far, but for a few car lengths, I'll absolutely take the shoulder and not be bothered if others do the same. For instance, turning westbound on HWY 66 from HWY 22 south of Bragg Creek. I'll take that shoulder 10/10 times to turn right, since there is a merge lane on 66, while cars wait for it to be safe to turn left. I don't know why that would upset someone.

I also always go out of my way to inch forward to let a car squeeze into a turn lane if I can. Which I guess leads me to another gear grinder, I get annoyed when people that have room don't inch forward to let others into a turn lane. I get that many drivers are not aware of their surroundings and don't look at their mirror while stopped, but this little bit of curtesy can be the difference between hitting a lead light and sitting at a double red for another light cycle.

Roads dept doesn't help out at all when they do stuff like this:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/m9JiF7QbdU6JqkLc6

They just spent a bunch of time making this turn lane a little longer. But they could have extended it much further east, adding more room. So many cases like this where it seems like ti's purposefully designed to reduce flow volume for no good reason.
