For a team like Canada this has always and continues to be a 19 year old tournament.

Worse than that...
Celebrini isn't available, and Levshunov and Demidov are Belarussian and Russian.
So it's actually 4 of the top 6 available Canadians from that draft.

That roster is probably going to have trouble scoring again (not the first time in the last few years), and then people are going to start comparing it to the alternative roster (post 89), and these kids are going to have a rough time of it.
But it isn't the kids' fault, it's the powers that be at Hockey Canada.

Based on recent events maybe it's better for our prospects to not be exposed to the atmosphere of the World Junior team? Does it actually benefit them?

What’s the atmosphere of the world junior team?

The other thing I am struggling to understand is, what is the purpose of the National Junior Team Summer Showcase roster?
You considered the players good enough to be selected then, so what has happened in the interim that they wouldn't presumptively be included in the December invitation list?
If a guy's hurt, or bombing the season so far, or new guys have played lights out and can't be ignored then sure, make some substitutions.
But that doesn't seem to be the case here. And seems to render the summer showcase pointless and a big waste of time.

The numerous scandals and "bro culture" atmosphere is not necessarily something you want to expose prospects to. When there have been multiple teams (and countries) that have had controversy surrounding them there will always be questions about the practice of Hockey Canada. If Dube didn't make the 2018 team he'd be playing on the Flames second line right now.

At this point you guys are just being dramatic. Should they have invited 4th overall Cayden Lindstrom who hasn't played a game this season and had surgery last month? Sam Dickenson is there for 2024, and despite being selected after Parekh and despite how much we hype him up Dickenson could very well be a better prospect.
By and large is this a 19 year old tourament; Sennecke, Iginla, Parekh, a healthy Lindstrom will be there next year on the team or close.

Why in gods name would you struggle with any of that? It's an evaluation/development camp. It's a bigger roster and designed to evaluate talent in a group and team setting.

Well. It’s team Canada. You could probably ice 2 or 3 teams each year. The coach and management obviously had their preferences. But end of the day some players aren’t going to make it.
In the long run. Who cares really. Unless you are the players that got cut or maybe their families. What difference does it make.

Yeah, that Brent Sutter sure struggled when it came to the world juniors.

What is your point? Next week's camp in Ottawa is also a roster designed to evaluate talent in a group and team setting, is it not?
Are you inferring that they already evaluated Sennecke, Iginla, Yakemchuk, and Parekh to be worse options than guys they haven't seen yet in Brunicke, Schaefer and McKenna?
You'll notice all the players mentioned are not 19-year-olds.

That's a.... terrible and reprehensible statement that puts almost no responsibility on Dube for what he (allegedly) did. This is certainly not a crime that only happens at world junior tournaments or dinners. If you pay any attention to the issue other than the major headlines, or follow Rick Westhead, you'd know players all over the junior landscape are getting accused. Noah Corson, son of Shayne, and nowhere ever good enough to make a world junior team, was just found guilty of sexual assault from when he was a junior in the QMJHL.

Yakemchuk is 19.
My point is the summer evaluation camp is a first step. Just because some players weren't invited to the initial camp doesn't mean staff is totally unfamiliar with them. The point of the summer evaluation camp is to get a closer look at a select few players. Like Flames prospect camp.
Next week's camp is the final step.

I'm pretty disappointed, was really looking forward to some Flames content on Team Canada for once.
But I'm still cheering for Canada.
Ping Pong, hockey, spitting for distance ... I'm cheering for Canada

Lol do you honestly believe that it is only at the WJCs where hockey players behave poorly? All that happened with the previous scandals is they were behaving poorly (criminal) with a spotlight on them. It's not some magic event that turns good upstanding citizens into rapists.

There is often discord among the posters on the team selection, yet Canada often does well and often wins.
This is still a very good team. Even if some of the picks are not popular.
