Guess avs chose to go the ultra cheap route to solve their goaltending problem.

I like this trade for Colorado, they really dont give up much and Wedgewood was at least as serviceable as Vladar for Dallas last year going 16-7-5

Agree. Vladar makes 2.2 mil too cap tight team. (Tre) vs 1.5

Vladar is a prime retain candidate to me. Flames should, without much question, retain 50% on Vladar. Other than Kuzmenko, I’m not sure who else they would use their two remaining spots on short of some team backing the truck up to get Coleman.

They can use that spot to help broker another contending team who doesnt have the space (particularly at the deadline) and they can charge a premium to do so.

Having those spots and the amount of cap room they do, means they have an opportunity to weaponize it without any sort of downside.

Even at 50 percent retained if he falls back to previous years play (not this year) still overpaid...
Just my thoughts. He has exceeded my expectations this year. And hope he continues to do so

Yeah don’t want them using the second retention slot so soon in the season unless it is for a haul.

Plus it's a dollars and sense thing. Cost the owners money to retain at this point vs at the deadline
Historically this team hasn't retained except markstrom early in year. Last year hanifin and lindholm late
Cap space accumulates and more teams have more space at the deadline so I doubt it happens

Sure, that kinda goes without saying.

Even still a goalie who can be a solid backup for $1.1, which is basically couch change in the NHL, is actually pretty valuable.

Conroy should be asking for a 2nd.

Respectfully yes and no
Dollars is small 1.1 but the buyer In the vladar market is more than likely a cap strapped team. 400kcap space diff been min salary might be cost second acquisition.

Okay, so if you’re a competitive team wanting to add depth due to injury or performance or whatever, what other goalies are out there who could be had for less? You’re really starting to scrap the bottom of the barrel if you think you can find a goalie who has Vladar’s experience for less than $1.1. And if there is a goalie out there providing that level of service, I’d bet the team that has that goalie now isn’t in a hurry to move that goalie.

Again, a goalie who is making ~$1M as a solid backup is very good value and more than a few teams would see that. There are also a lot of teams out there who are doing a whole lot worse.

Yes and no. Vladar still mid pack at today's level depends on everyone's evaluation. Enough said. Have good weekend

That’s my point. $1.1 for ‘mid-pack’ is very, very good value at todays level. The only goalie that might beat that on a retention deal is Alex Lyon as far as I can see.

You have a good weekend as well.

Maybe they would rather roll the dice on Cooley. Even cheaper. Less proven than Vladar. It seems NHL executives are always surprising us with the player valuations.

If I was an Avs fan I would be pretty furious with the goaltending situation. Wasting prime years of their franchise players with subpar goaltending.

This is a pretty meh move. Wedgewood is not playing well for Nashville and has another year at 1.5 left on his deal. They give up a younger less expensive guy who has played similarly this year plus a pick. Is Colorado thinking that having a clear cut older backup will ease Georgiev's anxiety and help him play better?

Wedgewood’s numbers have actually been better than Vladar’s in past seasons. My expectations for a Vladar trade have just taken a hit. Although I guess Vladar has been better so far this season…Ya never know…
