Drafted players can leave the CHL and play minor pro when they're either 20 (before Dec. 31) or after four years of junior -- something Lipinski would now qualify for.

 Lipinski is also a center.

He could have played in the AHL this season if they had wanted him to. They didn't need to wait until he turns 20, he just needs to turn 20 before the end of the calendar year.

Brzustewicz is a good example. Today is his 20th birthday but he has been with the Wranglers all season.

Once a player is sent back to junior, he can't be recalled (to the AHL or NHL) until his junior team's season is over -- except in very rare emergency situations and must be returned once the emergency condition is over (like when Baertschi was called up on an emergency recall from junior).

I wonder if any player who was waived for contract termination has ever been claimed?

I thought there was a second, but I can't find it. I thought it was Marian Studenic, but apparently not.

That's funny. Of course it was the Oilers.

Even funnier, when his contract expired, the Oilers gave him a qualifying offer, but he chose to sign with a KHL team in Siberia.

As per eliteprospects, he has signed with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the KHL.

Lipinski thinks the game well, but his skating ability is possibly the worst of any Flames prospect drafted in the past 20 years. It's Hunter Smith levels of awful.
