The Tigers just had Meneghin leave the game in PA with an injury.
What a disaster. The injuries just won't stop.

Hitmen are acquiring Tanner Howe. Reese Hamilton is part of the return.

Everett blanked Lethbridge 4-zip last night. Landon Dupont has played 17 games and has 5 goals and 14 assist for 19 points as a 15 year old defenseman. Everett has the best record in the Dub as well.
He doesn't turn 16 until May 28th, 2025. That's crazy.

Tigers lose a close one in OT 4-3 to the Blades on Saturday night. I'm not a fan of moral victories usually, but Saskatoon is the top team in the Eastern Conference thus it's a pretty good loss.

Don't know what's up with Bozkaya, and a little frustrating. Tigers stand to potentially lose both Finn Dmen to the WJC and could use a call up like him, he's been lighting up the CSSHL at SAHA.
It sounds like Basha is about 2 weeks away from returning as well.
Also, sounds like they are announcing the 2026 Memorial Cup winner today, between Spokane, Kelowna, Lethbridge, Brandon and Medicine Hat

2026 Memorial Cup to Kelowna. It is frustrating for both Alberta teams as I thought they had a legitimate shot this time round.

When you've never hosted the Memorial Cup, have one of the newest, nicest arenas in the league, the projected #1 OA NHL prospect on your roster and still can't win the bid it sure tells you something.
IMO

I had heard rumblings a week ago that Medicine Hat wasn't being as considered for a few reasons and that it was going to be in the west. Either way it's a gut shot and takes away from showcasing a premier player in the Hat or what Lethbridge can support.
I guess golf courses on the water is more enticing than the bald prairies with better teams

“This is an unbelievable place, why they wouldn’t pick us I don’t know, because I know what we would have done and how great it would have been,” Desjardins said. “Not taking anything away from anybody else, I just know how good this place is.”
As the bid committee and the city mourns what could have been with the Tigers as Memorial Cup hosts, the focus for the team at the centre remains the same. Medicine Hat entered play Wednesday in first place of the Central division with a record of 13-11-1. The Lethbridge Hurricanes (12-8-1-1) and Calgary Hitmen (11-7-3-1) are both tied for second having both played three fewer games.
Desjardins says the Memorial Cup announcement was a step back and brings a change of direction, but he says regardless, they’ve built the group with eyes on this season and next.
“I have lots of time between now and the trade deadline to adjust where we’re at, so I’ll start thinking about that in the next couple days,” Desjardins said. “But it’ll take a couple days to get over this one, because this was something that I thought was important for our franchise and our city. We just didn’t get that opportunity and it’s disappointing.”

Ughhhhh....

There’s no need now for Vancouver-born Macklin Celebrini or Mississauga-native Owen Power to come south to the USHL in order to go the college route.
The answer, this time, cannot be for Canada to puff its chest out and declare war on junior hockey in the U.S. There has already been talk of CHL expansion in the U.S., which will be outright rejected by USA Hockey as the national governing body with stern and swift response to defend its turf. And let’s be real, a number of Canadian markets have made overtures to join the USHL.
That can’t be the solution. Because the knife will cut both ways. How will the CHL feel if both Medicine Hat’s Gavin McKenna and Brampton’s Porter Martone exit their player contracts to enroll at the University of Michigan as rumored? Every side has something to lose in this brave new world.
|
I didn't even think of this, and what a blow it would be to lose the probable NHL 1st OA prospect to a US college in his draft year.

Willie D and the Tigers decided to take out some frustration of losing the Memorial Cup bid by scoring 14 goals (7 last night and 7 tonight) versus the Wheat Kings and Hitmen respectively.

I can't imagine how good the Tigers would be if they were't missing half of their top 6 forwards all season so far.
They are really going to miss McKenna when he goes to the WJC though. Hopefully Basha and Harsanyi are back by the at least.

Technically both Yager and Unger could still be on the Canes next year too as over ages. Not sure if that will happen though. A couple weeks ago the Canes were right at the top of the conference and then had a miserable road trip. They are on a 0-5-1 skid.
Not sure if this trade makes them a legit threat or not, but they are certainly better on paper anyways.
I wonder about '25 draft eligible Lakovic in MJ now. He's projected to go first round or so, I wonder if he wants out of there now after the inevitable dismantling of the Championship team around him...
If he's available Desjardins should be all over that.
