Basically, they're admitting "this is the most qualified anti-lockdown person we could find". Even more illuminating would be comparing the combined qualifications of all opponents to the combined qualifications of all proponents.

The right just weaponized social media better and has brought the bar so far down low to appeal to the lowest common denominator, manipulate people of limited education and political understanding, and intentionally galvanize the worst qualities and emotions of society's fringe as appropriate to bring into the main spotlight.

Ok, but as I said, Trump is basically a 3rd party. He's wanted to run as the reform party in the past but it's just not possible in the US. So he's had to do it this way, he's cut the head off of one of the two main parties. People in the US have pined for a 3rd parties to fight against the failures of two corporate parties. For people not supporting the Trump party doesn't mean the idea of destroying two useless parties is wrong. But a lot of people do support it. It's like in the 1800s when the Whigs had no more purpose the people went to either the Democrats or the new Republicans. You were either pro or anti slavery.
It's up to both parties win back support of the people or else this new MAGA party will run the place for a long time. The Democrats have a lane, they can go further left. I think the RINOs are decapitated.

I like Sandra Gathmann's series Start Here. It's title is apt as it's a starting point to various global issues. She did this one on the Mexican perspective of immigrants from Central and South America migrating through Mexico an their way north. They've been trying to work the issue for a while. Maybe not well, but they have been trying. And not because of the tariff threat.

It is fascinating to me to observe the early returns from Trump voters that are confused about the meaning of basic policies, and how they are going to drastically impact them in a negative way.
Not that I anticipated much introspection, but it is truly a marvel how such a large swath of a country was convinced to actively vote against their own best interest.
