Folks who have failed at criticizing Liberals or NDP to wake up and listen to their constituents or risk to further alienate their own base, focusing solely on the CPC being bad, scary, populist, etc, are why this result is expected.

That again speaks more about the Liberal-NDP collapse than it does the CPC turning things around (which obviously they did not).
Yes, here they are, at the tail-end of a government that has overstayed their welcome and alienated their own base. Voters are begging for an alternative. I think this has more to do with a typical democratic cycle than anything.

They didn't need to entrench themselves further to the right. They chose to do it because they listened to the loudest, stupidest people in their party. An inanimate carbon rod would poll well against Justin Trudeau right now.

You can't really pull out the Eric Andre meme of "how could they have done this" when it is the Conservative Party that decided the best course of action was to appeal to the lunatics.

PP is a highly unlikeable candidate that borrows and polishes the worst parts of populism. But, as you say, the alternative is just so poisonous that he's likely to run away with this.

The Liberals certainly have some soul-searching to do if they want to regain the confidence of Canadians, and I don't blame the Conservatives for thinking they needed to try something different and bolder. But I just can't track how the LPC's words, policies, or actions should be an excuse for the CPC putting said pants on their heads.

Here's a $250 bribe and a GST free Christmas tree to counter the "vibecession". Don't let your ####ty economic situation "disconnect you from the positive news that the numbers are showing about the Canadian economy!"

Wild.

I thought 'vibecession' was a joke term used by Conservatives but my god, this is a real ass quote:

Quote:
In a news conference on Monday, Freeland said there's a disconnect between recent good news on inflation and interest rates and how Canadians are feeling about the economy, something she said is being referred to as a "vibecession."

The tax cut is meant to help bridge that gap and stimulate consumer spending, she said.

"One of the positive impacts of this measure is to help Canadians get past that vibecession because how Canadians feel really does have a real economic impact," Freeland said.

See, it sounds so stupid as it is... now imagine a government official saying it and it's even worse.

To be fair, this is the way for Conservatives as well. They all milk it to the point that they destroy themselves and have to rebuild. I think I can agree that the Liberals are worse though. The parties would be wise to have some kind of internal term limit policies to ensure turnover and fresh voices. After a couple of terms, tunnel vision tends to set in. They dig holes that they then have to focus on digging out of and the country stalls out.

I'll believe it when I see it. 4.9 million refugee claims coming up.

Wait, 8% of Canada's population is here on temporary visas?

Do temporary visas get counted in a census? I honestly don't know.

I was a landed immigrant until my early 20's but have no memory of filling a census, or well lots of other things to be honest
