It's kind of crazy to think that there are only a handful of guys left on this team that actually played a game with Gaudreau as a Flame....

			Raise #13 or bust.
 Perfect night for it.

But maybe that's something that needs a bit of time to sit before making official.

But again, family in attendance and both clubs on the ice...

I have a feeling they aren't ready for this, it's not like the Gaudreau's will never be invited back

I doubt that they retire his jersey that night. I think this will be more of a remembrance of Johnny and Matty. It feels like down the road - a year or two or whenever it seems right - you make a celebration of Johnny's achievements here as a Flame and retire his number then. I think by retiring Johnny's number it sort of takes away from Matty who was also in this organization, at least that's how I sort of feel about it.

I'm really looking forward to this game. I doubt I'll be lucky enough to be there, but I'm really hoping the C of Red lets Monny know we've still got his back.
Obviously the night will be all about the Gaudreau family and paying tribute to everything they've ALL meant to us... But equally obvious is that Monny will be involved in some special way, and just remembering how broken he was at that funeral... This guy needs to be reminded that Calgary will always be there for him.

I want #13 hanging from the rafters, but kind of off to the side a bit as if he's saving a spot for #23 to join him when Monny retires. Not because Monahan has had a career that warrants it... but because in this building, in this city... it's just the way it needs to be.

Can't wait to see them. The Gaudreau's are royalty here. Johnny's name has been changed hundreds of times throughout his tenure here, but I fully expect this chant to be the greatest most emotional of all. I'm glad Monahan will be here for it too.

Yeah I know. It's wishful thinking.

It's something I really want to see is all. Usually there is a good amount of time between the player playing and banner raising. Considering the circumstance as well, it may be something more enjoyable for the family once the dust has settled and they've been able to go through their own process.

Dec 3 will be a memorial ceremony for sure.
They will retire the number at a later time in more of a celebration I believe.

I do think it's harder to retire Johnny's number at this, because it places way more of the focus on him relative to Matty. But I trust that between the organization and the family - whatever they do will be the right thing for right now.

My daughter and I had a great conversation about Johnny the other day as we were looking at a hockey card of him. She knows he passed away and how. But her question was just "can you tell me more about him..."

So I did. And it was wonderful. And heartbreaking all over again.

This could be a horrible idea, idk, but what if the Flames were to retire both 13 & 21? Johnny in a Flames banner, maybe Matthew in an NHL banner (or also Flames).
The Gaudreau's are all Flames for life. It was never just Johnny. It was the entire family.

I think this is top shelf by the organization to invite the family.
But, I don't think the Flames should retire his number.

I'd hold off retiring his jersey this year. Honestly, even before the tragedy, I thought Flames would eventually retire 13. Johnny's accomplished a lot as a Flame, he's in the top 5 for most Flames offensive categories. But this year should still be about remembering both brothers. Retiring the jersey should be celebration of Johnny's accomplishments, which should be later down the road in a couple of years.

Mine hasn't asked about him really but he was her favorite player when she was very little... I still remember us driving around at X-mas time and listening to the game on 960 and she'd yell out "Johnny Oooo-dreau!" (she had a hard time pronouncing the letter G) whenever the PBP guys mentioned him.

I think we have the #13 shirsey we got her in her keepsake box.

You know what? I dont think anyone should retire his number.

I think wearing #13 is a great way to honour his memory.

They could do what Columbus did which was put up a Banner with the number 13 to commemorate him, but did say it wasn't an official jersey retirement at this time even though nobody will likely wear the number again. (The Banner raised for Gaudreau doesnt' match the banner raised for Nash's retirement).
Personally I have no issue if they decide to retire 13 now, especially if Guy and Jane and the rest of the family are coming out here now.

You never know what could happen in the future and I would hate to wait too long and then something were to happen to Guy or Jane that would mean they didn't get to see the jersey retirement happen.

I don't think any player will put 13 on their back as a Flame ever again. Kind of like Theo (1999) and Kipper (2013) after they stopped playing.

I cant remember which interview it was but I believe Wolf has even talked about the influence Gaudreau has had on him as well. Even playing a different position, seeing a small player become a superstar did a lot for his own confidence
