Trump tariffs notwithstanding, Canada needs to start taking this seriously.

Too bad the person who is going to win the next election doesn't want to get security clearance to learn about these threats.

GullFoss. Please, for your own sake, if you wish to be considered a serious person with credibility, get out of your media bubble. Unfollow the grifters, memers, and propagandists. Do follow Reuters, follow Associated Press, follow Canadian Press, follow actual newswire agencies that report the news. If you develop media literacy and critical thinking you can start looking at editorials and biased primary sources (like Trump) but try to do so in a balanced way. Until you develop the "that's probably BS, I should fact check it" reflexes the best way to protect yourself from being fooled is to simply disconnect from the sort of people who would seek to fool you.

Unlike what I suspect most here would want, though, I will encourage you to keep sharing what you find "interesting" with us though, please. We'll debunk the bunk for you if you won't debunk it yourself.

Yeah, not sure many people have an appetite to deal seriously with a Yoho cosplayer.

Canada isn't a serious country. Hasn't been for a while.

Trump has a big China chip on his shoulder. We knew that going in, knew it from 2016.
China is obviously a big issue with the drug smuggling.
China is obviously a big issue in Canada with crime and all kinds of other ####.

Canada again isn't a serious country.

Maybe we should wake up.

Yeah, Mexico.

Is ABC News reliable enough of a news source? From 5 days ago.

Quote:
MEXICO CITY -- Mexico has been taking a bashing lately for allegedly serving as a conduit for Chinese parts and products into North America, and officials here are afraid a re-elected Donald Trump or politically struggling Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau could try to leave their country out of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada free trade agreement.

Mexico’s ruling Morena party is so afraid of losing the trade deal that President Claudia Sheinbaum said Friday the government has gone on a campaign to get companies to replace Chinese parts with locally made ones.

“We have a plan with the aim of substituting these imports that come from China, and producing the majority of them in Mexico, either with Mexican companies or primarily North American companies,” Sheinbaum said.

Funny how that works.

Interesting development.

I look forward to the made-in-Mexico iPhone 17. Thank you Trump!

Interesting dashboard you can play with here,

https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/d...ure-statistics

The northern boarder amounts to about 10% of illegal drugs by weight.

And with the 'Northern Border', the vast majority of any drug seizures are marijuana, which kind of makes sense since it's legal here.

Not to mention 2024 was very low relatively to other years. Under a Biden administration.

In other words, Trump making mountains out of molehills, and lemmings taking his word for it.

We are using all of our authorities and capabilities to do this. CBP has seized more fentanyl in the last two years than in the previous five years combined, and we continue to optimize our intelligence and field operations to stop this and other deadly substances from reaching American communities. We are also using all of our resources and leveraging all of our partnerships to take this fight to those responsible for producing fentanyl and bringing it across our borders.

CBP is dedicated to protecting the American people and safeguarding our borders from fentanyl and other dangerous drugs. This is a fight we take personal and one we simply will not lose.

Not sure how you can call this nothing. We all know its a growing problem and is only going to get worse.

We also know that money laundering is a massive issue in Canada as well, and it is attracting a lot of drug trade.

Again, these things have been a problem before Trump tweeted about it. But suddenly we are in a 'oh ####' I guess we should wake up moment.

Well, in 2023 they did stop a bit more than a molehill of snow.

Spoiler!

I mean, if fentanyl is really a problem like the Orangutan says, then go nuts I guess?

And if you look at fentanyl on the dashboard from the northern border, it's less than a rounding error in the southern border amounts. Perspective matters.

But if you look at fentanyl in relation to overdoses its more than a rounding error.

Also, the vast majority of seizure events are marijuana related. If there's a spike in any one-related drug in the past five years other than marijuana, then first, it got caught at the border, proving prevention policies are working. And second, that it's far less common when someone tries to do something that is far more nefarious and wholesale level smuggling than people simply bringing a bag of weed over the border.

This just isn't the panic-inducing attack that conservatives think it is.

You are the guy arguing Canada can't do a thing about CO2 emissions because it is a drop in the international bucket, so why bother? Yet this minuscule amount of fentanyl compared to what comes across the southern border is such a huge issue it requires massive action from Canada?

I'm no saying we should nothing, I'm saying what we are doing looks to be pretty OK compared to the southern border.

We have a lot more guns coming into Canada illegally than they do fentanyl, for instance. Let's maybe focus on the important stuff?

Trying to remember a point in my lifetime where conservatives weren’t terrified of the border. Every election ever they throw that red meat out for their easily manipulated base and they eat it up. Mmm the border is so scary. God can you fathom living in a city close to the southern border? It would probably be hell on earth.
