I'm guessing you don't drive, oil companies down south will be licking their lips at the price gouging opportunity this will give them, Covid won't have nothing on this as an excuse.

Might be an idea to pass a law here directing any excess capacity to be dumped cheaply into our domestic market to make life a little easier up here

I really liked what we did last time. Retaliatory tariffs that specifically target products made in districts represented by influential and electorally vulnerable Republicans, and I don't see why we wouldn't repeat it.

Trump should focus on stopping the illegal aliens who are invading Ukraine from Russia and closing that border.

Even if you had excess crude in Texas it can’t get to the refineries uo north, and the refineries in Texas can’t refine extra product and can’t transport it back north if they could.

If he enacts tariffs on crude oil and natural gas the impact will be immediate on many of the battleground states in terms of rising energy costs. It would take decades to try to wean the us off of our energy sources, if it were even possible.
Sure, my point is that Trump does not give a ####. And this idea that he would exclude the one product that matters to Alberta is laughable. Why would he do that? Electricity costs would skyrocket in a lot more places than fuel would skyrocket so I would guess the first thing that Trump would exempt is electricity if he were to exempt anything.

The 25% tariff announcement is going to end up at 10%. This is just repeating Elon's method of starting high so people think that 10% isn't as bad.

How about 10%? And ya, it's not about the percent, it's everything else, Donald.

People are really sensitive to gas price. It doesn’t make sense but they are.

Since this Tarriff is really about a problem that doesn’t exist - Canadian Fentanyl into the US and illegal immigration from Canadian entry points into the US it will be an easy one to give Trump a win on immigration and drug smuggling. You just say you are doing something about it, hold a press conference and call it a day.

And if he puts in Tarrifs you respond with maximum economic destruction counter tarriff and stopping exports.

We've already had a couple US counterparts reach out because they are concerned about the tariffs. They know they are getting hit with the tariff, because we sure aren't going to be taking the hit.

By all means, please verify that beyond just a random, obscure Florida-based 'journalist'. Because the Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum had this to say in today's news:

Associated Press: Mexico suggests it would impose its own tariffs to retaliate against any Trump tariffs

Quote:
President Claudia Sheinbaum suggested Tuesday that Mexico could retaliate with tariffs of its own, after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump threatened to impose 25% import duties on Mexican goods if the country doesn’t stop the flow of drugs and migrants across the border.

Sheinbaum said she was willing to engage in talks on the issues, but said drugs were a U.S. problem.

“One tariff would be followed by another in response, and so on until we put at risk common businesses,” Sheinbaum said, referring to U.S. automakers that have plants on both sides of the border.

She said Tuesday that Mexico had done a lot to stem the flow of migrants, noting “caravans of migrants no longer reach the border.”

She also said Mexico had worked to stem the flow of drugs like the deadly synthetic opioid fentanyl, despite an influx of weapons smuggled in from the United States. She said the flow of drugs “is a problem of public health and consumption in your country’s society.”

She said Mexico is already stopping caravans, not in reaction to Trump’s tariffs. I’d be embarrassed if I took that tweet seriously.

Do MAGAs forget that the current trade agreement Canada and the USA have (USMCA) was instituted by the orange himself? If it's such a bad agreement for America, are they admitting that Trump did a bad job in his first term? Remember, he had the house & senate too at that time.

Canada will retaliate - we did last time when he instituted 25% on Canadian steel & aluminium. Canada will retaliate again, except this time it will be devastating for Canadian industries like manufacturing, and it will destroy the stability of supply chain in the USA.

Isn't there actually kind of a big problem with drugs going from Canada into the US? I mean we definitely have been hearing more about busts on the border, and there was a massive drug lab taken down in BC the other day.

So I wouldn't say its about a problem that doesn't exist, but instead its a problem Canada 100% should be working with the US on solving, and something we can easily deal with.

I feel bad for farmers, forestry workers, people who work in tech. It might get ugly.
