I'd do that deal even if its protected. Push that pick to 2026 if possible.

Which is why the Sabres keep him. They went with Cozens over Mittelstadt

My understanding was Markstrom approached the Flames. In this case, it's not really up to Edwards, and would be more of a hockey ops decision to manage the pulse of the team/dressing room.

Kadri for Norris.

That Norris deal doesn't look good and Ottawa needs a way to get out of it. And they could use a veteran like Kadri that has won.

If Edwards is actually pulling the strings then it would totally be up to him. Markstrom wasn't a free agent and wasn't going to refuse to report.

It's all going his way, but it's a heater.

Get him!!!!

Even if they just want to dump Norris for cap space then I'd take him on.

His issue hasn't really been production, it been his chronic shoulder injury that he had 3 surgeries.

A 2019 WJC injury led to surgery, two shoulder injuries in 22/23 season led to a surgery, then a third injury on the shoulder in March 2024.

He had screws put in now and he himself said he feels much better with that - https://www.nhl.com/news/senators-jo...%2022%20months.

He missed pretty much all of 22-23, and then missed the last 25 games of last season after missing the start of the season too.

Really 30 points in 50 games after coming back from missing the 22-23 seasons (and not being a full participant in training camp) , and then 14 points in 20 games this season (with 24 goals in those 70 games) is pretty good for a guy getting back up to speed after injury.

He will be 26 in May which is a bit older than the ideal age, but if the cost to acquire him is low then I'd be all over it. Even with his injury struggles he's produced at a 32 goal per 82 game clip for his career in the NHL.

If I'm Ottawa I wouldn't be moving him now TBH, would be selling low.

But if they want a cheap fill in guy, Flames can trade Barrie or Hanley.

That makes sense, but local guy signing a free agent deal with his (basically) home-town team, a small-market team that has trouble attracting free agents?

Cozens is 174 points in 301 NHL games (0.58 P/GP)

Tomasino is 71 points in 159 NHL games (0.45 P/GP)

Career points per game much closer than you'd expect IMO. Same draft year and Tomasino is a bit younger.

Cozens obviously a lot more proven than Tomasino, has been a full time NHL and is the better player...but he's not worth that contract right now and has his own question marks with how the last 100+ games have went for him. I actually can't determine if Cozens is a much better player, or just player given much more opportunity.

I actually think anything more than a late 1st would be very surprising for Cozens based on his production and that contract.
Valid questions to be asking but does Tomasino getting his points playing on the wing skew the P/GP comparison?

Not sure if this is the place for non-Flames stuff, but sounds like a deal involving David Jiricek is imminent.

Who, Barrie? I think the Flames did him as much a favour as he did them. And if he gets more playing time in Ottawa, then he would appreciate it, I bet. Right now he’s played less than half the games.

No, Giroux, which is why I think Ottawa wouldn't trade him unless he wants out.

Sounds like the Flyers have things heading in the right direction. Michkov on offence, Jiricek on D (though I don't know him). Sounds like a good situation.

Jiricek is a young guy that was improperly handled by the Blue jackets org. He is definitely not trending the right way and in the eyes of some, looks worse now than his draft year.

Anyone getting him for pennies on the dollar and then righting his development would be huge for the player and the organization that gets him.

Paying a premium for his original draft position and pedigree and not being able to get him back to where he should be is a less good thing
