Downloading Torrents
Need some help from our resident techies here. So I (seemingly) downloaded my first ever torrent, off of <removed>, and now I have no idea how to play it. Whenever I click on it, it just begins downloading itself all over again, despite reading "100%" on the completed meter. Can someone help a brother out?

Specifically what did you download (what is the file extension)?

Did you check the folder where it was saved too for the file?

Make sure you're clicking on the files you actually downloaded (which should have downloaded to a folder you specified) rather than simply the torrent file you downloaded off of the website.

OK, lets try another tact.
You initially download a .torrent file. You then open this file in another program (what program were you using?). Something 24.9GB is HUGE and, unless you have a super fast connection, will take a long time to download.
I'm trying to figure out if you've downloaded just the little .torrent file, or if you have actually received the whole file(s).

Discussing things abstractly is ok, but please don't mention specific sites to get stuff.
The torrent file itself is just instructions, when the torrent program is launched after downloading the torrent file, it creates a directory and such to place the downloaded files in, most programs ask where you want to put them.
What program are you using to download the torrent? You might be able to right click on the torrent in the program and one of the options might be "Show in Explorer"

Yeah so I downloaded the file, then saved it in My Documents. Then when I click to start it, a box pops up that says "Torrent Task Existed!". Then I click ok, and then it seems to just start downloading again in my torrent downloader area(Im trying to avoid specific names due to a request)

You can mention the torrent program. It is used for lots of good things - Linux distros, game patches, open source programs, video podcasts, and so on.
So tell us what you are using, just don't tell us what you are receiving if it is copyrighted material (which it is - you may want to edit the post where you mention it).
Anyways, I'm gone for a bit, so someone else will need to help you out if it is urgent (looks like a bunch other people way more knowledgable than me are around)

So what is the size of the file you downloaded?

You can mention the specific program you use to open the torrent file (Azureus, uTorrent, etc).
That file is just the "instructions" for the torrent. So yeah it opens the torrent downloading program and starts the download. When you did it the first time, did it ask you where you wanted to place the downloaded files(s)?

Yeah it asked me, and I saved it somewhere. So what do I have to do from there?

Post a screenshot or two of your folders... upload them to imageshack.us
Open your torrent client and look for the active torrent.
It should have a % completed.
If it's at 100% and seeding you have downloaded everything.
Go to the download folder and click on the movie files which should be .avi or .mpg in most cases.
edit: Tell us what bit torrent client you're using.

This is how you do it
1) Download the torrent file. You've already done this. The file is a few KB only.
2) Double click you bit torrent file, this will open the file in your bit torrent client. If it does not succeed (ie ask you what program you want to open the file in), you need to download a bit torrent client. Download Azureus or uTorrent or something along those lines.
Once you open the file in your bit torrent client, this will download the actual content that you want. In your case this is 24GB. This will take several days to download, most likely.
3) After the download completes you should be able to play the file(s). It may be compressed in rar (download winrar) or zip format, in which case you need to extract it first.
That should about cover it, I think. Post specific questions if any of this does not make sense.

I just checked in Azureus.
It should be listed under "My Torrents" if its downloading. You should see a progress bar.
When its downloaded it goes into the "My Shares" section. Then you should be able to open it. Right click the file and select 'open file'.

Well, if it's 24GB it'll take days and days to download. THEN you'll be in business.

You can also try uTorrent. Thats what I use. They have a step-by-step process to open ports in your router (should you have one) and get the max speed possible out of torrent downloading.

Yep, I see it in there. Don't see a progress bar, but I tested out a really small file and it worked perfectly(though it was really choppy, although I'm chalking that up to the massive file I'm also downloading at the same time). Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it!
