Some tier one fans are calling for Derek Ryan to be waived to bring up Savoie. Ryan should have never gone to the no goods.

Gretzky was kind of bullied by the media into his fight - for a couple weeks it was a story how he never fought and let others fight for him. So he picked a fight with the smallest guy on the other team (I think it was Broten) and got his ass kicked.

I was shocked when that trade happened. I don't follow the draft as much as other posters here but I do follow it pretty closely.

I've never even heard of the guy. So glad they made that trade

Not going to embed the tweet…are there any oilers players who don’t have some form of title? Best player without a goal, etc.

Here’s a new one. Gregor has called Janmark the best oilers player no one talks about.

Truly banner worthy. Outside chance of a mid game interruption and commemorative tshirt.

I liked the player pre draft for our later 2nd or one of our 3rds

Most pre-draft rankings had him late first, early second round. More or less went where expected.

One wise CP poster pointed out that the only reason the Oilers traded for the 32nd pick was to make it look like they won the cup last year (no good).

Not that it really means all that much, but since I was curious, here are the current stats for Flames prospects taken after Sam O'Reilly:

Andrew Basha (pick 41 overall) - 17 GP, 7 goals, 13 assists, 20 pts.
Jacob Battaglia (pick 62 overall) - 24 GP, 15 goals, 19 assists. 34 pts.
Henry Mews (pick 74 overall) - 21 GP, 7 goals, 20 assists, 27 pts. (defenseman)
Karill Zarubin - goalie prospect so we'll skip him
Trevor Hoskin (pick 106 overall) - 14 GP, 4 goals, 8 assists, 12 points
Luke Misa (pick 150 overall) - 21 GP, 11 goals, 14 assists, 25 points
Hunter Laing (pick 170 0verall) - 21 GP, 7 goals, 8 assists, 15 points
Eric Jamieson (pick 177 overall) - 22 GP, 6 goals, 4 assists, 10 points (defenseman)

Because depth guys on a team that's barely above .500 and #### the bed vs good teams this year should be all the rage.

Every one around the league would sacrifice their first born for a Janmark.

Part of me thinks they made that selection because they need some youth and depth to play in the bottom 6. This was them trying to fast track a replacement for one of their pensioners playing right now. They probably thought he could step in this season considering they traded McLeod a week later.

That wouldn't have been very smart of them. How many 32nd overall picks play in the NHL at 18 years old? I think the answer is none or pretty close to it.

I think they did it just to say they had a first round pick.

I don't see any way forward for the Oilers than doesn't involving pushing any chips they have into the middle.

I ascribe their trade to this as well. Last year of the full-on "in-person" draft and the Oilers are such attention hogs that they needed to have a pick on TV and be acknowledged as well and they made a stupid trade to do it

Have you met the Oilers management? If 65% of first rounders play vs 35% for 2nd. Then obviously you need to trade up into the 1st to get that NHL player.

It serves two purposes:
1) Gives them a better chance to win now.
2) Speeds up their tank for a high draft pick once the window closes.

If I recall they had the audacity to claim that they "stole" draft day by making a terrible trade to draft a third round caliber player in the first round.

Looking forward to seeing who the Flyers draft in the teens with their 1st this year. Heard it a deeep draft at the top.

Edmonton no es bueno kinda cuts deeper than just 'no good'.

I like that one a lot. And the French one.
