Some scenes are fun to watch again. Others are painful. In hindsight there are 2 or 3 main storylines I could have done without. And I think Queen DT was very poorly cast.

You have to also remember that in the beginning this wasn't a huge show with enormous following.
When they cast her, it wouldn't have been a large role with high quality talent going for it.
It was a take your top off a lot roll in the early seasons.

Actually they did attract a lot of excellent talent even in the early seasons, although they may not have been known so much in North America. But they had enough of the books to know that she is a very key figure, and they had Martin's outline as well. This show was expected to be quite big.


The Stark kinds may not have been well-known, but most of the adults were already highly regarded with various levels of fame. Lena Headey? Peter Dinklage? Sean Bean? Mark Addy? Jason Momoa had been a regular in 3 separate tv series, in 44 episodes of Baywatch and almost 80 of Stargate Atlantis.



She wasn't even the first actress cast for the part; that was Tamzin Merchant, who someone at HBO didn't like after they screened the pilot.
