SLC punk for sure.
Walk the Line.
La Bamba

What about band cameos? Rule is they had to be performing.
My faves:
Gwar (Empire Records)
Cannibal Corpse (Ace Ventura)
Dead Kennedys ( 1988 one of George Burns's last films 18 again)
Reel big Fish (Baseketball)
Alice Cooper (Wayne's world)
Dave Grohl as Satan in the Pick of Destiny.

Pete: In fact, isn't "Milwaukee" an Indian name? Alice Cooper: Yes, Pete, it is. Actually, it's pronounced "mill-e-wah-que" which is Algonquin for "the good land."

Damn it, I forgot Hedwig, I literally have a Hedwig poster in the entrance to my house.

I remember not knowing a single thing about it back in the day, rented it blind and watched it 3 times before returning. If I had to choose, it would be my #1 music related movie with The Commitments right there next to it.

Saw both Deadpool V. Wolverine and Aliens: Romulus last weekend.

Was pretty bored through many parts of Deadpool. Glad I didn't pay for it in the theatre. The action scenes were really repetitive. A lot of the jokes were just okay. They also recycled a lot of stuff from Loki. Definitely some entertaining parts too though. Worth a stream.

Aliens: Romulus was good, but not as good as I expected from the reviews. They didn't actively F things up the way some Aliens movies have. I think I just went in with really high expectations, based on the word of mouth.

I will defend Purple Rain! Maybe because the soundtrack is near perfect, and for Morris Day, and First Avenue. Never did see Graffiti Bridge, but Can’t Stop should have been a big hit.

Movies where bands appear:

True Stories - Talking Heads
La Bamba - Los Lobos
Human Highway - Devo
Streets of Fire - The Blasters
Back to School - Oingo Boingo
Out of Bounds - Siouxsie & The Banshees
Eat The Rich - Motörhead
I’m Gonna Git You Sucka - Fishbone
Serial Mom - L7
Jawbreaker - The Donnas
A.I. - Ministry
I Love You, Man - Rush
Wings of Desire - Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
The Flintstones - B-52s
Hot Rod - Queens of the Stone Age
Rude Boy - The Clash
Clueless - The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey - Primus
Tron: Legacy - Daft Punk
Beautiful Girls - The Afghan Whigs
Empire Records - GWAR

Gladiator 2 is a great time.

You just don't get period piece action films like this any more.

Worst part: awkward wrestling with CG monkeys
Favorite part: Denzel...omg. Also, sharks!

And yes, there's a character that borrows heavily from Joffrey Baratheon.

Might be the most well paced Ridley Scott film in more than a decade.

8/10

(Probably tacking on a point just for nostalgia)

I won't see it until probably Monday... but Gladiator was the last movie I saw with my dad in theatres before he died in Oct of that year. 24 years later, the sequel is being released - a reminder of how time moves relentlessly forward.

You'll be happy with it I think. It ties in nicely with the first without sitting on its shoulders.

I'm not too familiar with the lead actor but he's great in it. Crowe left big shoes and he does admirably here.

Time is stupid as you get older. The last 10 years have felt like 6 months. And 2024 just started yesterday.

I watched a great 90s thriller Breakdown with Kurt Russell. Basic story is a couple who are moving across the country there car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. Kurt Russell's wife gets a ride to a diner a couple miles down the road while Kurt Russell tries to fix the car. Once the car is fixed he can't find his wife at the diner and suspects foul play is a foot. Movie is filled with some tense action scenes and is very fast paced at only 90 minutes.

Very underrated character actor. It's a shame he isn't given more recognition for his work. Walsh has a very distinguishable voice as well, I don't need to see him to know "That's J.T. Walsh." Sadly Walsh passed the year after Breakdown was released. He had such an iconic death scene as well, with the truck falling off the bridge.

I remember watching this with my dad, who drove logging trucks, and it's the only movie featuring truck stunts that he didn't completely pick apart. All the stunts they did with the semi were completely realistic and impressive to a grizzled old truck driver. The complete opposite happened when we watched Black Dog, another truck action movie with Patrick Swayze and Meatloaf. He was ripping that thing apart the entire time, it was like the trucker version of Mystery Science Theater 3000
