Big time

Super disappointed in my Toyo Celsius II's compared to other winters I've run. They're only all weathers which is probably why. That's what I get for being cheap and lazy

What summer tires do you run? If they're close to replacement, keep these as your summers and buy better winters for next winter?

Probably just get rid of the whole car to be honest. Time to replace and downsize the whole fleet one last time before we leave Canada.

but yeah get good dedicated winters. #### all weathers. They're fine if you're careful and still better than all seasons, but you don't get that sense of raw traction you do with a good set.

Is this a retirement move or a career lifestyle move?

Also you might die there from the heat based on your posts in this thread

Really it's just all of the above. Wife got a job down there and now I've got one lined up too.

The heat will kill me, no question about that. The climate is about the only thing in Calgary that I like

Have an awesome adventure down there btimbit! Opportunities like these can be amazing chapters in one's life, I fully support living abroad; it provides valuable cultural perspective and humbleness. Don't worry about Calgary (and its climate), it'll always be here if you want to come back. Absolutely enjoy the heat and the nice weather.

I was going back and forth on getting new winters this year, but didnt want to stretch the budget. I'm now realizing it was time. Boo.

I see Hakkas are on sale but the Blizzak WS90s are much cheaper and I've had good experience with them in the past. But have also heard Blizzak's wear a lot quick than Hakkas.

Took the plunge on all-weathers and after one drive back on Glenmore kinda regret not doing it sooner.

They do wear quicker, but the reality is you might get an extra season or two out of your hakkas, realistically. The up-front difference in price favours the blizzaks even with the longevity difference. But the hakkas do perform somewhat better in basically every condition except for deep / fresh snow.

As noted I did that same calculus recently and went with the blizzaks, but if I wasn't regularly taking trips to the mountains and was more of a daily commuter, like most people, I don't think either is the most sensible option. Most of the time in Calgary we're driving on bare or nearly bare roads in somewhere between -8 and -20. There are a number of tires that make those conditions feel basically like driving on all seasons, and while they're not as good snow tires as the WS90s, they're arguably better winter tires for what we routinely drive on here.

Given I trust you’ve done all the research to an obsessive level (that’s a compliment) plz share what the actual better option would be. Also I haven’t gone back any pages so sorry if you’ve already answered this. I think this is the last season for the Toyo’s I’m running and time to find something better for the 80% conditions you describe.

Thanks for the reply and input. We have family in BC and often take winter trips to visit them, so a good tire that's capabale on the highways is necessary. Plus we enjoy going out for small winter hikes etc.

Just picked up a set of Duratracs for my F-150 275/60 20inch. I was looking for K02 or Toyo Open Country, but the set I grabbed were so cheap.

I am now seeing that the tires I wanted are available for similar price. Would the K02 or Toyos be a noticeable upgrade over Duratracs?

Like I say there are a number of tires that are perfectly cromulent winter tires (in the sense that they will perform much better in any winter condition than an all season) but are better in dry / wet bare rather than snow / ice, and the question is what you can find a good deal on. Like, Continental Wintercontact, Hankook Wintericept, Michelin Xice, Goodyear ultragrip, Pirelli Cinturato Winter... all solid winter tires that have good dry road performance. I have more experience with the Michelins personally, but I also have a high opinion of Continentals generally that outpaces their pricing usually.

I mean if money is no object Hakkas are still the best all around, and Pilot Alpins are up there too, but those tires are always more expensive.

I did not like the Duratracs. They were great in snow but not so great on glare ice.

I've run both the KO2s and Duratracs, albeit on different vehicles, but I'd say both had similar snow and ice performance.

That said, after 20k the Duratracs are going to be in full hum mode while the KO2s still run quiet. That is if that's the kind of thing that bothers you.
