It's interesting because the Oilers issue right now is very much "the percentages" but as we saw with the 22-23 Flames...that doesn't always sort itself out in season.

All Situations:

xGF: 54.8% - 3rd
Shooting %: 7.94% - 32nd
Save Percentage: .875 - 31st

So they are getting PDO'd to hell right now but there are two potential reasons for that.

Goaltending: Their goalies aren't very good and they are doing that 22-23 Flames thing where they don't give up much volume, or even a high volume of high danger chances, but the chances they do give up are just complete defensive breakdowns, which makes the goalies look even worse.

Shooting:

Draisaitl is shooting at an absord clip (26.53%) and McDavid isn't that fair below his career average (12.28%), combined those two have 20 goals on 106 shots (18.9%) so it's not like they are shooting below expected.

But the rest of that forward group is struggling:

Podkolzin: 26 shots, 0 goals
RNH: 38 shots, 1 goal
Arvidsson: 38 shots, 2 goals
Skinner: 53 shots, 3 goals
Hyman: 49 shots, 3 goals
Henrique: 30 shots, 2 goals

But for those guys outside of Podkolzin they are all 31 or older - and that's on the tail end of the shooting percentage decline you generally see in the NHL.

Now they are still far below that too (a combined 4.7% shooting percentage is abysmal under any circumstances) but who knows how much upside their is with those aging veterans.

Foegele 6G 4A 10pts
McLoed 6G 6A 12pts
Holloway 4G 4A 8pts

Skinner 3G 3A 6pts
Arvidsson 2G 3A 5pts
Podkolzin 0G 3A 3pts

Broberg, a defenceman that's been injured the last three weeks is still ahead of those guys with 9 points.

Heretical thought, but perhaps it's not the coach that needs to be dismissed. Maybe the captain should stripped of his C.

We’ve been assured in this very thread by “I’m a Flames fan but…” posters that there is a fountain of youth available to any oilers that want it. I assume it’s still a secret for some…maybe it’s buried under the dressing room and Mavi is hiding it in plain sight! “Dig in right now”.

I still don’t think that the oilers have had the injuries that I expect on an older team.

So if Pissy's shooting % drops and the best players that don't have goals score a few they are in the same situation lol.

Waiver pick up Kapanen will solve their goal scoring woes.

career high 20 goals in 18/19. Hasn't come close since, but surely, he will bounce back 6 seasons later.

And he’s young. A youthful 28!

The fact that he’s a forward is just a bonus!

And after his pretty decent rookie season, Podkolzin has 4 goals in 77 games.

You just know the Oilers front office is going: "Ha! we stuck it to the Blues by claiming one of their players on waivers"

TBH I don't hate it for them though, they really need some speed and Kapanen can bring that at least.

It was mentioned a few pages ago. But those goal visualizers in NHL's game summaries are pretty cool. And hilarious for last night. Just watch 97 on all goals against. Just priceless stuff. On the first goal Montreal has the puck deep in Edmontons zone and 97 floats back to the bench and just gets off to give his buddy Leon that sweet, sweet minus. On the 2nd goal, 97 flies the zone and is caught at centre ice when the puck goes in. The 3rd goal is pure comedy. 97 turns the puck over and immediately bee lines it to the bench to get off the ice before the puck crosses the line. Just classic from the worlds greatest digger.

What they need is help on defence and in goal.

Lol, another forward. It's hilarious that they keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again. Always trying to out-score their problems.

And looking at Kapanen's stats over the last few seasons, this guy ain't gonna move the needle for the Oilers at all. I'm guessing their plan is to play him with McLoser for a few games to see if he can ride his coattails and get some sweet McPP points?
