The Reaves hit on Nurse was definitely suspension worthy...

But Nurse has to have the experience to know you can't come around the net like that and be puck watching.

Oilers are worse when he in on the ice...

Hoping for a speedy recovery.

Yeah the hit was garbage but I can’t believe how long Nurse was looking down while skating behind the net with the puck…

This is a tough one…

I hate it when the guy getting hit gets blamed, but Sweet Baby Jesus, what is Nurse doing? How is he not expecting some type of forecheck?

If its Lombo making the hit, it’s on every highlight reel, as the highest his shoulder gets is mid chest, Nurse still gets flattened, and no penalty.

Reeves is a big man, and unfortunately for him, needs to be more responsible with his hitting, hence the 5 min for head contact.

I think because the mechanics of the hit were legal (besides the head contact), coasting, shoulder down, stays on feet, no lunge, traveling in a straight line, stick on puck, etc, the 5 min should be enough.

Reeves could have very well connected cleanly and Nurse would still have been hurt. Probably still pretty bad.

I don’t see it the same way.

I don’t take any joy seeing people knocked in to the middle of next week

It’s not that hard to assess the position of the guy you are about to hit and let up

Reaves may get along with Scott Oake on HNIC but on the ice he is a piece of #### and the league doesn’t need what he brings

Edmonton still sucks

And I love that on the first pass he was trying to "spring" two players who were slowly skating to the bench to change, with the replacement for one already over the boards so it would have been too many men...

As bad as Nurse is, he is still the third best defenseman on the Oilers. Who will be his replacement? Brown?

Zach Hyman 3 goals in 18 games. needs 27 goals in 64 games (35 goal pace)
Jeff Skinner 3 goals in 18 games, needs 27 goals in 64 games
Victor Arvidsson 2 goals in 16 games, needs 28 goals in 64 games (36 goal pace)
RNH 1 goal in 18 games , needs 29 goals in 64 games (37 goal pace)
Kane 0 goals in 0 games, needs 30 goals in 64 games (38 goal pace)

Hyman- to be fair, has exceed 35 goals last 2 years-

Skinner - ok still doing fine. has exceed 35 goals 3 times, last 3 years ago
Arvidsson- career high is 34 7 years ago
Nuge- one 37 goal season in his 14 year career
Kane- has scored exactly 30 twice in his 15 year career- last 5 years ago (*yes he's injured but that is factored in in the original article, figures he only needs 50-60 games to hit 30)

Maybe breaking the NHL record for 30 goal scorers won't happen this season? stay tuned.

8 goals in 70 games for the sure fire bottom 5 doesn't scream likely
I appreciate you putting these numbers together as anything to laugh at the Oilers is great, but the formatting here drives me bonkers lol.

Projected Sure-Fire 30-Goal Scorers
Hyman - 18GP - 3G
On pace for 14G

Skinner - 18GP - 3G
On pace for 14G

Arvidsson - 16GP - 2G
On pace for 10G

Nugent-Hopkins - 18GP - 1G
On pace for 5G

Kane - 0GP - 0G
On pace for 0G

BONUS
Podkolzin - 18GP - 0G
On pace for 0G

I can't get enough of just how much faster he skated off the ice than he did trying to stop the breakaway LOL.

Those two goals by the Leafs was a 'wow' moment'. I honestly can't recall a worse sequence by an NHL player. If I were an Oiler fan, I'd be disgusted by that effort on the break away. Same if I were a player. That kind of effort will demoralize a team. Which, goes without saying, is excellent in this circumstance.

Man how far has the Hockey News fallen?

How did Caleb Kerney go from random odd job home builder to a Hockey News writer. His twitter and HN bio boast Caleb has written for the hockey news for "..almost two years!".

Does he think ice time is unlimited and all those wingers will line up with Mcdavid at the same time?
