The cost would be free if the Leafs agreed to take his full contract - seven million cap-hit with four years to go - but they aren't going to do that.

For a nominal fee - a couple of low picks similar to what the Leafs got for Liljegren - the Leafs should be able to convince the Flames to pay some of Kadri's contract for the next four years while they rebuild. Who knows, maybe a blockbuster where the Leafs also get Rasmus Anderson or MacKenzie Weegar could also be worked out

Thanks for sharing. I agree with your assessment. This author does not realize Kadri has worth to the Flames for at least two reasons. (a) First, the Flames are not tanking. They want to remain competitive. Kadri helps that goal, because he is one of the Flames only centres, a good player and a leader. (b) If the Flames gave him away for free, they would be under the cap floor. They don’t need cap space.

If the Leafs want Kadri, they’d better be prepared to send a centre back who is paid enough to keep the Flames above the cap floor and give us reasonable value in terms of futures.

Easton Cowan and their 2026 1st should be enough for them to get Kadri. Hell we can throw in our 2026 5th so Brad has some capital coming back.

The Flames are one point behind the Leafs and they need a first line center. Maybe send over Matthews for a few draft picks (a couple 3rds and a 4th)

You can almost never trust a Leafs rumour, probably like 98.9% of them are homer media based proposals in which teams are lining up to give quality players to Toronto in exchange for terrible contracts, grizzled veterans with no upside and or seemingly terrible picks/prospects.

I can’t remember the last time I saw even a reasonable rumour coming out of T.O
It’s really embarrassing, sad that there’s such an audience that click bait articles like that can continue to get views.

In flames related news, sadly nothing new to report as there’s nothing close.
Craig still very much interested in a young center with huge upside.

Snagging that center is going to be Conroy's biggest accomplishment. It's the hardest thing to trade for. I believe in him though. He's has a solid handle on his business.

I'm prepared to say "Who the heck is that?" When he does make that trade and follow that up with "where's he find that guy? He's playing amazing!"

I believe English only starts in Grade 3, so he’s a few years from that.
