Zary is really playing hard this year . Outstanding every time I see him ....always getting mentioned by broadcast as such.
Need that powerplay and PK to start clicking....27th on the PK is abysmally bad

With Zary and Coronato both RFA this summer, what are your expectations for contracts? I imagine Conroy will try to lock Zary up long term, but I could see a bridge for Bison. And he has no arb rights correct? since he burned ELC year 1?

Weird. I like every change made. That doesn't happen often.
I hope they give Zary a good hard look at C.

Ugh, not looking forward to seeing Huberdeau drag Zary into obscurity. But maybe the power of the Zar will prevent that!

I think Zary needs to be locked up long term. He is proving he is continuing his good play from this year and already elevating it. 8x7 maybe?
Coronato is tough because he has been great this year, but last year he was just meh. I think Coronato better to wait and watch how he plays throughout the year now that he will be here permanently. If he continues to play well most of the year. I think you gotta consider a long term contract too. It is just sorta weird because he doesnt have a long track record now for like 8 x 6 for example
Zary 8x7
Coronato 8x6
Wolf 8x7.5

?
How is Zary getting a look with our leading goal scorer and top producing forward a bad thing?
Huberdeau has easily outplayed and outworked Nazem Kadri this year whom is Zary's most frequent linemate to date. It "should" be an upgrade for the kid.

Agreed, Kadri has been pretty uninspiring thus far.

If Kadri actually made passes I think that line would be producing a t a far better clip than it has (Zary-Kadri-Pops).
Kadris got his blinders on again so far this season so whatever I suppose.
Happy to see Zary get a chance to get some passes in the offensive zone.
I believe if given a good run, that Huberdeau-Zary-Sharangovich line can produce at a top level. They've removed all lot of the things that don't work for lines but making this line. Hopefully I'm right and Huberdeau can relax a bit and have a bit of esp chemistry with two creative players who know how to make space for themselves and find holes.

From the Huberdeau, about Huberdeau's very bad possession stats, thread:
"Nevermind that at 5v5 his expected goals per 60 is 3rd last for all forwards, beating out only Ryan Lomberg and Roonie (same with high danger shots attempts, the ones most likely to go in).
Nevermind that at 5v5 he has the most offensive zone starts of all forwards not named Sam Honzek.
Ignore that he has as many even strength points as Justin Kirkland even though Kirkland starts the majority of his shifts in the defensive zone and Huberdeau starts the majority of his in the offensive zone. (while riding a sky high 30% shooting percentage, sustainable I think!)"

Glad to see Zary getting a shot at center. Hopefully they give him several games rather than just a game or two.
Also love that first powerplay unit… rewarding players that are generating chances.

I mean that's just an oddly biased viewed.
Huberdeau is tied for the team lead among forwards in 5 on 5 and even strength scoring at 7. Who cares if he is tied with Kirkland? Kirkland also has a 19.57% on is SH% in those situations which is by far the highest on the team.
xGF is just one stat - one in which high skill players consistently outperform. That also doesn't take into account that Huberdeau is playing far more responsible hockey than Kadri is and as a result has a considerably better SCF% and HDCF% rates than Kadri. Both those two have the same amount of offensive zone starts at 45.
Additionally Huberdeau has played almost exclusively with two (and now three) centers who have never played the position full time. Let's not pretend like he has had some cushy offensive role on the team.

With Zary's puck handling he should excel as the driver of that line now that he's C. One should hope, anyway.

Zary is probably the only Flame with a high enough hockey IQ to be able to anticipate and cleanly accept Huberdeau's nonconventional passes. It might actually work. But the Flames need to give them at least 10 games together to try to build some chemistry.
If it works and Zary gets more NHL experience at centre, I'd like to see Coronato on the RW of that line. It would be nice to have a pure goal scorer for Huby and Zary to pass to.

I wouldn't hate that, but there's an argument for a bridge. Zary is UFA eligible in 2029 and Coronato in 2030. You could still bridge both of them without taking them straight to UFA. I love Zary, but he's only played 80 NHL games. Not sure that's earned him the big contract yet. Same with Coronato, but even moreso.
