Cam Schmidt is the player like Ridley Greig that all the players in the league talk about. Fastest player in the league past two years and mean, not huge.
This is a hell of a hit:

Looks like he's at the end of a shift, too, as he heads to the bench for a change.

Very exciting player to watch, and unlike other players of his size, he makes a little room for himself with his strength, solid base, and general surliness. He is one of the fastest players in the draft, too.

Pronman's latest ranking is out. (paywall)
https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/589...agens-martone/
He notes that Schaefer could go 1, 2, or 3 because there is a huge chasm between Schaefer and the rest of the dmen in the draft.
Says that this is looking to be a below average draft overall with only 4-6 premium prospects depending on who you talk to.
Also the lowest ranking for Ryabkin I have seen at #24
Tier 1 Bubble elite NHL player and NHL All-Star
1. Martone
2. Hagens
Tier 2 NHL All-Star
3. Schaefer
Tier 3 Bubble NHL All-Star and top of the lineup player
4. Misa
5. McQueen
Tier 4 Top of the lineup player
6. Frondell
7. Desnoyers
Tier 5 Bubble top and middle of the lineup player
6 players
Tier 6 Middle of the lineup player
14 players

I expressed some doubt in the Trade Rumours thread about the guality of talent in the draft this season, and I think there’s a lot of players who were thought to be strong late first- second round options who aren’t producing as expected….

Yeah sounds like this isn't the ideal year to stock up on draft picks. Maybe the type of year where you package up a bunch of picks to move up if you can in hopes of getting one of the better prospects although that rarely seems to happen much anymore.

After 5 goals and 10 points in his last 5 games, Michael Misa has moved into first place in OHL scoring, with 17gp/21g/12a/33pts,+12, 6 PIM. He is first in goal-scoring by 5.
LW Malcolm Spence has 9 points in his last 5, and sits in a tie for 13th in OHL scoring.
Some say RW Justin Carbonneau has been rounding out his game, and with 9 points in his last 5 games, he has moved into a tie for 7th in Q scoring with 17gp/9g/17a/26pts,-1, 18 PIM.
With 12 points in his last 5 games, C Caleb Desnoyers has moved into a tie for 12th in Q scoring, with 14gp/12g/12a/24pts,+20, 4 PIM. He is second in plus/minus, behind teammate Julius Sumpf (+23).
LW Bill Zonnon has 6 points in his last 3, and sits tied for 10th in scoring, with 18gp/9g/16a/25pts,+10, 8 PIM.
C Carter Bear has 8 points in his last 4 games, and is in a tie for 5th in WHL scoring, with 18gp/14g/15a/29pts,+15, 16 PIM.
Tied with Carter Bear for 5th is LW Nathan Behm (7 points in his last 5), with 18gp/13g/16a/29pts,+14, 10 PIM.
RW Cameron Schmidt is one point behind those two (11 points in his last 5 games, including 6 goals), with 16gp/18g/10a/28pts,+6, 10 PIM, but is 1st overall in goals.
LW Cole Reschny has 14 points in the last 10 games, and is tied for 17th in scoring, with 18gp/7g/17a/24pts.+3, 14pts.
With 10 points in his last 6 games, D Jackson Smith is tied for 5th in scoring by D in the WHL, with 16gp/1g/17a/18pts,+12, 20 PIM. He's going to be a big riser.
Will Sharpe is tied for 13th in D scoring with 15gp/2g/13a/15pts,+2, 10 PIM.

Scoring Winger

I just noticed that Ben Kindel is leading the Hitmen in points and is scoring quite a few goals.
His shooting percentage is unsustainably high, but still a really strong pace for a centre on a mediocre team, after a decent D-1 year, but he's being projected in the back half of the second round. He also got invited to team Canada camp.
For those who see him (I'm in Victoria so get to see lots of Reschny but not a lot of Hitmen games) or understand prospects a little better than me, what's the knock on him or are we going to see him as a riser?

It's really impressive to see a player his age lead his team in scoring, and he's currently on pace to rack up 90 points- on a very middling team.
Kindel has everything you want in an offensive forward- he sees the ice extremely well, has a good shot, plays through traffic, wins battles, and displays a smart off-puck game. He's also solid defensively. The knocks on him are his size (5'10"), and his skating- which is good, but not as great as it could be. I think he's still looking at the second round, with the potential of middle-six duty in the NHL- although they said the same things about Brayden Point....

If anything that might make it easier to stock up on picks this year. Similar to how no one wanted to give up picks in the Bedard draft since it was quite deep, they were more willing to give up picks the previous year. More darts gives a much better chance of hitting those few home runs that might be there in the 1st and 2nd rounds

Might just be the size, but that sounds similar to Andrew Basha's scouting report, but Kindel is on a much worse team.
If he makes team Canada, and keeps up a similar scoring pace, he's probably going to be a riser. Would love to get him at the same place the Flames drafted Basha too.

Where would Dupont be picked if he was eligible this coming year instead of 2027? 17 points in 15 games for a 15-year-old defenceman. Sheesh. We could already start a 2027 draft thread simply to follow him!

1st overall imo. I’d even argue he could challenge McKenna for 1st overall if the next 3 were combined

Would Jamie Benn with even more offensive upside be a good comparable to Martone?
