Pinder was discussing the potential of sending Vladar to Colorado on BB this morning. I've been thinking the same thing after they waived Kahkonen. I'd do it. Cooley looks ready.

Given where Buffalo is sure to finish in the standings, Andersson or not, squeezing a first out of them would be a coup…

I'd do Andersson for Cozens straight up.
I can't imagine the Sabres being willing to move on from him.
I could see something resembling the following.
Futures Deal:
Rasmus for Jokiharju /Krebs + Helenius + 2nd
Retool under 25 deal:
Rasmus + Rooney for Jokiharju + Krebs + Helenius

Going back to Juri’s point just a couple posts ago, fans tend to get tunnel vision. I suspect the goalie market is a bit soft right now. I think there’s a number of goalies in/around Vladar’s range that probably could be had.
Gustavson in Minnesota for one. He’s off to a great start but was considered a trade candidate this past offseason. Blackwood’s name has also been out there. Jarry could be had for probably next to nothing. Gibson probably available too once he gets back.

I would love to get Helenius. They need a better culture.
Coleman + Anderson + 2nd + prospect (Kuzmenko, Poirier, Pelletier...) for
Helenius + 1st
|
To those thinking that this proposal is too much...why?
We NEED a young C.
-We do not need Kuzmenko or Poirier who are waiver eligible next year and look unlikely to ever make the NHL at this point.
-We also do not need another LW prospect like Pelletier who couldn't crack the lineup and has Honzek, Suniev, and Stromgren over his shoulder.
-A 2nd rounder in a 'weak' draft is not a deal breaker either if it gets us what we need.
To get a cost controlled, 18 year old blue chip, you will need to add to your pair of 30 year old players with 2-3 years of contract runway. No GM would make the deal without some added bonus(es).

Gus was only a candidate if Wallstedt blew the doors off in camp/preseason. I don't think the Wild have any interest in trying to go with a Wallstedt & Fleury tandem if they're trying to be a contender this year though.
Blackwood I don't think can be trusted.
Jarry is terrible.
Gibson has been pretty medoicre (and often injured) the last couple seasons.
If Gus was an option he's probably a better one to a team than Vladar, but I think Vladar's a better option than the rest.

Andersson for Helenius (14th OV) + 2nd is actually pretty fair.
If you compare that to the initial Chychrun trade:
Chychrun for 2023 1st (12th OV) + 2024 2nd + 2026 (2nd)
Chychrun had 2 years left on his deal at the deadline he was traded at compared to Andersson who will have only 1 year left...but if the trade happens sooner than the deadline then it's quite similar. Chychrun played 12 games for the Sens in 2023, and then the full 82 the next year, if you traded Andersson to the Sabres right now it's only about 30 games less than the Sens got Chychrun (if they didn't trade him again) .

Because you're overpaying and Buffalo likely can't make all that cap work anyways.
Helenius is a good prospect but to me he's about the same value of if you got Buffalo's 2025 1st.
Every asset matters for the Flames and overpaying to get a specifc asset makes no sense. They'd be better off getting a collection of picks and drafting their own center than overpaying to get a specifc asset just because they are a center.

I'm actually surprised Helenius hasn't played yet this season for the Sabres. Wasn't he touted to be "ready for the NHL" leading up to the draft?
Especially with Tage Thompson out a few games here I thought he'd get a call up for sure. Odd.

Who possibly wants Jarry for the next 3 years after this one for 5.38 million a year. That is not a serious goalie option.
Blackwood is the only other serious option.

I think people need to give up on Buffalo as a trading partner. Pretty questionable upside as a team and undesirable city. Why would Andersson or Coleman have it available as a place to go

Sure but you don’t think Wild fans aren’t saying on Minnesota Puck ‘we need to sell high on this guy’?
I bet the exact same conversations we’re seeing here regarding Andersson are what they’re saying about Gustavson.

Wasn’t too long ago Blackwood was left for dead too. Jake Allen, at one point, was asked to go home.
Jarry had previously shown to be a quality goalie. I suspect there will be a team, at some point who may roll the dice. That said, I agree that the contract is a major hindrance at this point.
Gibson, I think, could be a legitimate option. He’s been a change of scenery candidate for years. Put in the right situation, he could be just as good, or better, than Vladar.

Depends on how much they trust Wallstedt. Minnesota is going to care about going on the deepest playoff run they can. Totally different spot than the Flames.

He would have swept the Oilers in that playoff series if Sutter would have put him in.

Jets could push for cup this year and use a guy like Anderson. They have some interesting C prospects not on the pro roster

The Flames braintrust don’t want a long rebuild. Conroy is out there beating the bushes for a young C because he doesn’t want the Flames to suck next year. Getting a mid-1st round C from a very strong 2024 strong draft, who’s one season away from playing in the NHL, has more value than a mid 1st round pick in 2025 that’s likely 2-3 seasons away.

I don't think the difference between somebody like Helenius who was a mid-1st round pick last year, is a huge difference to a guy like Frondell (if his injury causes him to drop), Desnoyers, O'Brien, or Moore who are projected as possibly being in that 10-15 range this year.
Not nearly a big enough difference to go pay a huge premium to acquire Helenius, vs getting the 12th - 15th pick this year and just drafting your own guy.
Moore, Desnoyers, and O'Brien all have NHLe that are in the 30+ range right now (Helenius was 32 in his D-year) and are actually all listed as being 6'2", while Helenius was listed at 5'11".
If Helenius is 1-2 seasons away then no reason those guys also aren't possibly 1-2 seasons away, there is less than a year of age difference between most of them, and they are the same quality of prospects.
I'd love the Flames to get Helenius but if they are moving Andersson, Coleman, 2nd, and Pelletier to get Helenius + 2026 1st...that's probably not a great trade. Especially since Flames would have to retain on both guys for that to work cap wise too.

No goalie could have done that. The entire team played like garbage.

Flames have been talking to Buffalo as previously mentioned.
Not saying Flames are the "big trade" with Buffalo but it certainly fits the narrative of both parties being interested in making something big happen.
Nothing imminent I was told earlier today, but both sides definitely continue to talk.

Thanks Royle....any indications on who Buffalo might be targeting (I assume it's Andersson).
I also wonder if Sabres could be looking to move Samuelsson now...LH shot which is a surplus with Dahlin, Power, Byram all being LH...and he was healthy scratched for 3 games before he got hurt.
24 years old, 6'4" dman...kind of fits the young+big dmen mold that Conroy has been acquiring. Something like Samuelsson + 1st (or Helenius) for Andersson would really be in line with the type of deals Conroy has made too.
