I thought the same a few months ago but at the time it made no sense why he took a $4M discount a year when his team wasn’t even competing for a playoff spot. I truly believe he is a good guy and did it for his superstition comfort but at the same time his team was going nowhere. I think he was leaving the option available where it would be attractive to another team while also helping the pens with a tradeable contract.

Between Vladar hip and rumors about Markstroms groin....I'm glad we have Wolf and Cooley

Thats the craziest post I’ve ever read on this site.

You’re equating a multiple time top goalie in the leagues he’s played, AHL MVP and one of Calgary’s top prospects to Dan Vladar? Their body of work could not be more different.

Vladar is a below average back up goalie cast off. Nobody but BT would ever pay $4.4 million for that.

I’m glad he is having a good start, and I really hope he increases his value for our and his benefit. He’s overpaid for what he is and I diubt anyone would claim him right now.

I’m looking forward to your ‘Mantha and Coronado are basically the same,’ post.

If you take out game 1 vs the canucks Vladar is .920 sv% and 2.27 GAA in 7 games

That includes the Vegas debacle

Agreed. Very similar metrics to Wolf.

Source: https://moneypuck.com/goalies.htm

For those with 6 games played so far (at least 40% of games):

Wolf 15th GSAA/60: 0.321
Vladar 19th GSAA/60: 0.198

Those above him in GSAA/60 are mostly #1 starters that are not getting traded.

A second round pick value or at worst a 3rd pick is very much in play by trade deadline in my view. Given prior trades such as: Logan Thompson for 2 3rd picks; Jake Allen for conditional 3rd; Erik Portillo for 3rd; Adin Hill for 4th pick; Ville Husso for 3rd; Petr Mrazek for 2nd; Vitek Vanacek for 2nd.

More than half a season left to trade deadline for scouts to evaluate performance. UFA status also lessens the risk given his year to year fluctuations.

All I know is that I would like to see a Wolf/Cooley tandem next year the way things are going. Sigalet's goalie dept gets a A rating from me of late.

TBH nobody really knows what he is. He’s only played a few games since having double hip surgery for an injury that impacted his previous 2 seasons. Maybe he’s the goalie he was 3 seasons ago. Maybe he’s better because he’s pain free. Maybe he’s worse because of the surgery. Only time will tell.

Vladar is better than people are talking about here. Way better. He’s easily worth a 3rd and thank Christ some of you aren’t GM.

I think Vladar has looked excellent, especially considering he plays behind a mediocre defense group, and a mediocre team….

Let’s reserve judgement on what Vladar is worth until he’s at least had 20 starts after his surgery.

No sense? It’s his number, and the same contract he’s had his whole career. Crosby is a different breed. He’s weird. There’s no way he puts on another sweater. Unless the penguins give him the Brodeur treatment (which they won’t). Even then I’d doubt it.

In a fantasy world, he would go to Washington and play with Ovi.

Hear, hear.

Saying he's performed about as well as wolf so far is hardly a hot take (I specified that albeit with very different styles). Wasn't an indictment on Wolf's ceiling, though somehow one poster took it that way lol. They've been a good, even tandem for the most part.

The inordinate response is one of the oddest things I've seen on here.

Didn't realize the board had a hate hard-on for Vladar. Tough crowd. This is the best stretch I've seen of him in calgary. Simply relaying what I see.

LeBrun: Sabres looking to make “big” trade

https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/591...shared_article NHL rumblings: Ken Holland’s new role, early trade market, tampering, CBA and more from GMs meeting

From the article:

Quote:
League sources say the Buffalo Sabres are among the busier teams phoning around sizing up the trade market. I asked Sabres GM Kevyn Adams about that Tuesday, and he said, “I believe in this group, but at the same time I am looking into every possible way to improve our roster.”

Said one rival team executive about the Sabres: “They’re looking to do something big if they can.”

Everyone that disagrees with you is not "the board".

But if we acknowledge that, his results end up looking pretty good and that won't fit the narrative that he's not good!
