I'm not sure he is.

I think the only legit team that could realistically say Vladar is definitively better than what they already have is Colorado. And even then, there will probably be better options for them on the market ... really depends on what ANA does with Gibson.

I think he fits what lots of teams with bad goaltending might want - an established NHL goaltender who is playing well this season and could be acquired for a reasonable price (probably a 3rd round pick -or maybe a 2nd round pick with retention).

Clearly better starting goaltenders than what Pittsburgh has (or other teams with bad goaltending) aren’t really available right now. If other teams have a starting goaltender that looks really good, they won’t trade them this early (think of Markstrom last year). If a team like Pittsburgh wants to salvage their season before it’s too late, they might have to gamble on a goalie that’s just playing better than their goalies right now rather than a goalie that has a long track record as a starting goaltender that’s levels above their current goalies.

John Gibson?

He has fallen off the map since 18/19

I get it, and I agree, but I think GMs will be more inclined toward Gibson as an upgrade based on his pedigree and track record. I think whichever team makes that move will probably be making a mistake, but I think Gibson will be the top dog on the market regardless if Anaheim makes him available.

Yup, some GM will say he has been on a dumpster fire of a team and will bounce back.

Whoever the guy on Twitter was that said Dvorak was hitting waivers yesterday is about as much an insider as I am. Not there today either.

I know Colorado already has their cup, but man oh the Treliving levels of inability to address the goaltending is a bit of a black mark on a team that should be in the dynasty conversation.

Does Colorado even have any space with Nichushkin getting activated soon?

Vladar makes a ton of sense for them given his cap hit.

With Cooley and Wolf playing well.
Trading Vladar does make sense. Especially since the Flames are trending to lose their 1st this year.

Dostal looking good is totally defeating the Gibson narrative, IMO.

No,but only by about $300k so they can just send someone down. Gets real interesting if Landeskog does indeed come back though. They have to clear out his whole $7M salary in other people to fit him in. Funnily enough Middlestadt + Georgiev - Vladar = $6,950,000

Ultimately, if Cooley attracts higher bids perhaps we should trade him and look to keep Vladar longer term. He and Wolf are proving to be a great tandem.

I am aiming lower bingo, less than 50% of the package Askarov got.
Yes there is!

The trade deadline.

What? Georgiev's contract expires at the end of the season and is only $3.4 million.
Frankly I thought it was a given you would take him on in a goalie trade with colorado. Not sure how the 1.2 million more he makes than Vladar makes it a "massive cap dump" but sure.

What do you think will come first? Avs panicking because their season is slipping down the drain due to extremely poor goaltending, or the trade deadline? I bet the former.

I think it will be less the season slipping away, considering they are holding the WC2 spot right now and 2 points back of CEN3. It will be more the level of confidence they will have with their goaltending in the playoffs.
