Vladar is a pending UFA after this year and he is not worth nearly as much as a 22 year old former lottery pick

Better performing this year, I believe that (don't have the stats in front of me). But Markstrom's career numbers were absolutely taken into account. And he had time left on his deal with the Flames eating some.

Askarov is 22 team controlled and a top prospect.

Vladar is a 28-year-old career backup and pending UFA.

WE are not getting a 1st and their best prospect.

Vladar is a 27 year old with 83 NHL games and a sub .900 career save % no where near what Markstrom’s resume has. We would be lucky to get the 3rd round pick the team paid to get Vladar back in a trade

Askarov was picked 13. Not sure when that was ever considered a lottery pick.

You are right about Vladar's contract though, I was losing a year in my mind again.

But looking at Vladar's performance so far this season, he is definitely more valuable than when we picked him up. And with the goalie market tight, I think he's got way more value than a 3rd rounder.

This comment is especially funny because when Markstrom was 27 he had almost the exact same number set.

Coleman makes by far the most sense to me in terms of vets that would be open to move in addition to Andersson. Both have shorter term contracts left and while Rasmus could extend Coleman will be past his mid 30’s when this deal is done and likely would not be a part of this team coming back up where Kadri, Huberdeau, Weegar all have enough term left to see this thing through on the other side (if they can make it)

I did not say both, I said one or the other. 1/2 or less depending on your thoughts on the goalie prospect, of what Askarov got.

The AVS are desperate for goaltending, and Vladar is a on cheap deal. I think if we took Georgiev we can get a 2nd.

Goaltending has sunk them so far this year.

Andersson + Coleman together could be a real shot in the arm for a rising contender squad.

Vladar might be able to get you a second this year for sure.

Flames have 47 games before the trade deadline I think, meaning Vladar likely plays at least around 22 more games and will be around 30 for the season.

If he can be around a .910 (which likely would bring his career save percentage up to around .900) then I think you could probably get a 2nd for him.

And you never know there are lots of teams that could be looking for a goalie and maybe you could even end up getting a 1st with some conditions but I would find that very unlikely. Reto Berra returned a 2nd once though so who knows.

I've said going back to the offseason that if I was Buffalo I'd be calling every day about those two. They could use a defensive responsible top 9 forward, and could use a RH dman to help stabalize and mentor their young LH guys (Dahlin, Byram, Power).

I'd be offering the farm for those 2 if I was the Sabres.

Just had a peek, Avs have the NYR 2nd this year apparently but no 3rds for a few years.

I forgot they had Georgiev, I guess if the Flames ate that whole deal (pending UFA) the Avs save a few dollars but not a lot. Thats maybe worth a future 4th or 5th.

If the Avs can move that 2nd, they'd probably prefer to wait until the deadline. Which seems risky given their current standing.

No way Vladar gets a Ritchie level prospect or a 1st.

Lottery picks are for teams that missed the playoffs where each team is entered into the lottery to move up.

We will see what the value is on Vladar but the sample size is small and he still only has a .906 save %. Hopefully he can get a 2nd or more it will require a dry market, desperate team, and continued strong play

But they are in a playoff spot right now, so my guess is unless they are out of it by the deadline that nobody with term is moving.
They can't let a playoff spot screw up the long-term plan of the team.

100% Agree - but Coleman still has 2 years after this one. You have no pressure to move him at the deadline unless somebody overpays.

He might actually return more in an offseason trade.

I agree. It gives more time to work through the cap and options he'd waive for. I don't think Buffalo is going to be an option for Coleman or Andersson though.

I think you get a 3rd for Vladar.

I'd rather keep Vladar until the offseason and watch Colorado miss the playoffs or get drummed out 1st round then let them have Vladar for a 3rd.
