Chicken on the Way fries and chicken pieces, when done right, is incredible. But I don't think they really put the effort in to ensure the quality of prep and cooking when they started franchising out. I think it was basically "here's the chicken and fries you'll use and here's some deep fryers, figure it out".

I think the OG Chicken on the Way is the same as the franchises. I suspect they just hire people and give them bare minimum training on how to cook. I think they cook a batch of chicken, but since the breasts are monstrously huge, everything ends up getting overcooked to the point of inedibility.
For fast food options, Church’s is pretty good and the biscuits and mashed potatoes are tasty. Jollibees, Chicken on the Way, and KFC are all bottom of the list for me.

For reasons that aren't immediately obvious to me the Chicken on the Way in Crowfoot is way better than the other versions. I think part of it is freshness - they consistently make you wait for the food and cook it (at least the fries) fresh when you order.

Southland doesn't understand the fry crispiness trick of putting them in the box and letting them sit a minute or so before closing the box. If you box up fries straight out of the deep fryer they turn to a soggy mess.

I tried Church's and it was pretty damn good, but unfortunately it's a 35 minute drive from my house to that NW location, so that won't happen unless I find myself up there and needing a meal.

Two different styles. Sometimes I'm in the mood for one, sometimes I'm in the mood for the other

Not to ruin the 'great chickening' of the gear grinder thread but stuck bolts grind my gears. What should be quite simple is turning into an ordeal. Anyone got one of those induction coil heater things I can use?

Tried Mary Browns this weekend. I prefer it to Popeyes for sure.
I don’t me the taste of Popeyes, but there is so E-Mail that upsets my stomach shortly after eating. Can’t go back.

Popeye’s was a hit even though the frys were soggy and the onion rings were undercooked. Grandma made coleslaw, mac salad and cake so no one starved.

How are the fries? It seems like the one bad thing about a lot of chicken places is that the fries are always soggy.

KFC has moved to the open-faced boxing for the fries. It's a bit more crispy but not great.
The Gravy has taken a major hit.

Like Nufy said, it’s all about the big Mary. Is that what you had?
FYI They are on sale on Mondays. Big Mary Mondays.

Unless you get the sauced up versions, Korean chicken is the crispiest, most well cooked completely unseasoned lump of chicken on the planet.
Use some ####ing seasoning on the regular chicken Koreans.

Had no idea Mary Browns was Canadian. Thought it was just another US brand like Churches. We haven’t had fried chicken yet this year so I see a visit in the near future.

I had the Buffalo Mary. Thought their sandwich was really good. Poutine and fries were both mid.

Fried Chicken in general grinds my gears.
It usually is greasy and if crispy goes everywhere.
Also, I hate chicken on the bone. Ugh, so much effort to get....chicken.
The worst of all the meats.
