Default Flames 3 Kings 1

Flames 3 Kings 1

- can't believe we didn't see OT
- Dustin Wolf loses a shut out bid on a play review (good call)
- Zary should have scored 4
- Flames get goals from two vets in win

I didn't think the video review camera was directly above the goal line was it? So you had to take into account angles. Maybe I'm wrong.

Certainly the sensor in a puck technology isn't all that complicated at this point to remove all doubt? Or some other 3d camera technology that somehow recognizes the material on the puck and can definitively project where it is? The net never moves so can it be that hard? Same with TD's in football.

With Cooley playing so well, I doubt you could ever slide him through waivers again (unless he was just awful at the NHL level). Suddenly Flames look like they have three capable goalies, all kind of young. And not enough centres. Hmm...

The angle tonight was virtually directly above the line so whatever little angle there was, it was inconsequential.

Thanks for the write-up, Bingo!
Always nice to read positives about our young players. Coronato has finally arrived and Zary is taking steps to becoming a star. But what about Pospisils? He's not putting up any points anymore.

Yeah for me it was good enough.

You could see the continuation of the goal line beside the net on the same line as the cross bar with the puck behind it fully.

Scientifically proven? No.

But passed the smell test for me.

And I hope that's how they call these things from now on. I'm not a fan of the "was a goal on the ice and now you need 100% proof to overturn" nonsense.

I expect they had a better angle which was conclusive.

The reason they need conclusive evidence is because the referee perhaps actually had a best view.

I don't expect Pospisils to be a big point guy. That's not his game.

I really appreciate the Wrangler update. Lots of us don't have time to check everything Flames, so this is always a nice summary of the Wranglers.

Nah ...

Referee should be involved and can say "I saw it, it was in" if the video isn't conclusive.

But to have the need for conclusive evidence to overturn is silly.

Pospisil and Zary were 1 and 2 in the gap between expected goals for and goals for (towards expected) last season.

Zary has taken a step, and with that has alleviated the regression, but Pospisil seems to be feeling it.

I’m totally fine with it being called a goal last night(what a save attempt by Wolf). Just wish this replay was available in 2004

Seems a good a place as any to talk Game Take style.

My thought was to do them as there is a demand, but lean more into pregame rambling, and less during the game.

Less work for me after the game, and still we roll forward with game stories.

So added the Wrangler section, and a Flames pre game stats section. Then beef it up with inner game commentary.

Over time have there been players who consistently underperform their expected goals for vis their actual goals for?

I'm not criticizing advanced stats but my left brain has the biased that there will be gaps where advanced stats will say this player should score more. But said player lacks that extra bit of talent that differentiates a legit scorer from a below average finisher. In time a player like Zary looks like he should normalize to his advanced numbers. A guy like Pospisil to me might be the guy who largely underperforms in terms of production based results, but might have that Shean Donovan outlier year where he out performs and doubles other years totals.

Every season there is a list of players that exceed their expected goal production.

They are generally highly skilled and can finish at a better rate than the average player.

I used to hold hope on Draisaitl reverting to average, but he just doesn't.

Not sure Pospisil is that guy.

This season ...

Flames players ranked in exceeding expected results

GF/60 vs xGF60
Kirkland +2.21/60
Huberdeau +1.09/60
Pospisil +0.76/60

Pospisil still ahead of the curve, but generating less when he's on the ice.

Conversely, Kadri, Sharangovich and Zary are all under water, suggesting there is more to come.

Another item I would have added for Game Takes:

Amazon Prime puts out a top tier broadcast for an NHL game, which makes Sportsnet look like Grade 10 AV class.
