Can't trade this year's 1st because it conditionally belongs to Montreal.

I mean they can trade it with even more conditions, our heads might explode trying to figure it out though

Does the NJ 1st even have the value attached to it to get the type of player they want? I doubt it but who knows.

The latter part of the first round will have some centers that are of interest, but not the game-changers that will go in the first 8 picks…

2nd liners.
I also think Conory won’t be able to find what he’s looking for on the trade market.
It’s going to have to come via the draft.

There will be game changers outside the first round like always they will just be harder to identify
Kirill Kaprizov and Kucherov are doing pretty good this season so far

They still won’t go very far without a #1C and pretty quickly another #2C. Flames seem determined to prove you can win a cup with strong defence and wingers.

That’s true, although- even though it’s still early, this year’s draft is looking quite sparse outside of the first round, and some of the players that were projected to be there just aren’t producing as expected (which could mean a potential gem slips to us too),
There are other posters that follow the draft just as much as me (I think you’re pretty knowledgeable dino, as well as dammage, Jiri, and others) who might have a different opinion, but I hope our scouts can uncover some gems after the first cuz it looks fairly dismal right now….

I hate to re-start the argument, but I think those two (and Zary) are better suited to the wing, although metrics suggest that Pospisil is doing pretty good there.

That other 1st could prove more valuable in a potential move up if we don’t get into the top 5 although it does seem teams are unwilling to trade back.
Was it Montreal who offered an unprotected 1st in 25 to jump back in? Got rejected.

Zary is a damned natural center. Drives me a little loopy constantly reading ppl convince themselves he's a winger in the NHL. He's a center and not being used as one (for now).

Agreed, they aren’t play driving centres imo and would be playing the wing on a contender.

I hope you’re right, and as we know- most established centres in the league spend their first few years in the league playing the wing in order to get acclimated.

It’s not really a compelling argument. A lot of wingers are centres who converted when they couldn’t hack the position in the NHL. There’s definitely room for him to centre a line for a few games and the Flames don’t seem to think it’s a good idea.

I also like how much more Pospisil can get involved along the boards when he plays wing. Although again, advanced stats say he looks good at C.
